On this our third ever, and now National, OOSH Educators Day, I have been able to show my own educators how much I appreciate them, spend some time with other OOSHIES and our peak Network at Paramatta Park to celebrate today and say a few words to commemorate the fact that we even have our own day no!. It is the first time we have been able to spend it as a group due to the pandemic, being in lockdown both the first and second year.
I am the founder of OOSH Educators day, s we were never included in Early Childhood Educators day, even though we are under the same umbrella nationally when it comes to regulations, curriculum and assessment and rating, it made me cranky!! I nagged and nagged the department and ministers for years about WHY? OOSH was never afforded the same respect to be celebrated as equal professionals in our field.
Our Amazing educators are often seen in our industry as babysitters. However, now you know we have exactly the same regulations and expectations from the government as early Learning Centres and Pre-schools.
At Woosh we pride ourselves on being an exceeding service under the regulations and work tirelessly on our programming and making sure we are following our curriculum. This also involves ensuring that all children are included in our program and we have many processes in place to ensure this happens on a weekly basis. Our educators put a lot of time and pride into their programming to ensure our children have activities that they want to do, but will also afford them learning opportunities. Everything we do has a purpose.
As one of the lowest paid professions, with qualified educators, we are not afforded the respect of the professionals we are in the children's services industry (even though we were deemed critical during the pandemic), we are passionate about making sure our educators are recognised for the work they do with children and the support they provide for our families day in and day out. Many of our families could not survive without us and I am proud to say we have supported many families socially, emotionally and in an education sense on many many occasions.
So here is cheers, to all OOSH educators across Australia, and in particular our educators here at Wilberforce OOSH. I am so lucky to have such an AMAZING team and to be passionate about what I do with children and families!!!
