🌟 Congratulations Cohen! 🌟

We are thrilled to celebrate Year 10 student Cohen, who has been awarded the Adelaide University Future in Focus Scholarship! 🎓

The scholarship provides up to $2,000 over two years to one eligible Year 10 student from a South Australian public school, supporting their senior school education.

Cohen has also recently completed his Term 3 work experience with My Chiropractor Whyalla, where he gained an insight into life in a chiropractic clinic and the different aspects of the team’s day-to-day work.

The team at My Chiropractor Whyalla had some wonderful things to say about Cohen, recognising his hard work, enthusiasm and willingness to learn, and sharing that they believe he has a bright future ahead. 👏

We are incredibly proud of Cohen and this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations, Cohen! We can’t wait to see what the future holds for you! 🌟

☕ Barista Course Success at Whyalla Secondary College! ☕

Recently, 11 students from Years 9–11 participated in a Barista course through The Workabout Centre. As part of their training, students learned essential skills including basic coffee-making, milk texturing, machine operation, customer service and food safety hygiene.

Over the 2 day course, students put their newly learned skills to the test, making over 250 coffees for staff and guests at the Aboriginal Education Showcase. In addition to their coffees, they also created a variety of cold drinks, including milkshakes and iced coffees.

We are proud to announce that all 11 students successfully completed the course and will be receiving their certificates. Congratulations to our budding baristas! 🫖🍵

During a recent assembly, our talented Spencer Gulf students took to the stage as part of their Health and PE assignment! They performed an energetic dance routine to the inspiring song “Try Everything.” 🎶

We are so proud of their dedication, teamwork and the wonderful way they expressed themselves through movement. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm and creativity in action 🤸‍♀️ 🕺

🌱 Hands-On Learning at STEAM! 🌱

Our Tailored Learning students were back at STEAM recently for another hands-on learning session.

Students worked together to prepare lunch on the BBQ, while others rolled up their sleeves in the garden, moving soil and preparing the raised garden beds for future planting 🌱 🪏

Throughout the session, students developed teamwork, communication and practical problem-solving skills while taking responsibility for their shared space.
STEAM provides students with the opportunity to learn through doing, build practical life and workplace skills and take pride in seeing their projects develop over time.

We’re looking forward to seeing their plans for the space continue to take shape over the coming weeks! 🌱

🌱 Getting Started at STEAM 🌱

Last term our Tailored Learning students headed out for their first session at STEAM, spending time getting to know the space and beginning to plan what they would like to achieve.

Students explored the gardens, looked at what was already growing and discussed ideas for how they could develop and use the space throughout the term. They also got straight into some hands-on work, tidying garden beds and identifying areas they would like to work on.

The first session was all about exploring, sharing ideas and making plans, giving students the opportunity to have a real say in how the space will develop and what they would like to achieve.

We’re excited to see their plans coming together as they make the STEAM space their own over the coming weeks! 🌱

Recently our female students represented the college in Knockout Football. This was a fantastic day out for our girls at the Football carnival, with both teams showing great effort, teamwork and skills. Our Year 7–9 girls progressed through to the grand final after a strong carnival. They faced Caritas College from Port Augusta in a closely contested grand final and, despite falling short, competed extremely well and should be proud of their efforts. Our Year 10–12 girls also had an impressive run, defeating Seaview Christian College Port Augusta and Port Augusta Secondary School to progress to the grand final, where they faced Caritas. The girls gave it everything but ultimately fell short in the final. Congratulations to all of our girls on an outstanding carnival.
