We are excited to be welcoming the one and only Drew Hawkins to the line up for our Tamworth Accelerator event from 7-10th September 2026.

Drew is a passionate agribusiness progressional who started his 25+ year career as an agronomist and Merchandise Manager. During that time, he developed a deep understanding of agricultural science and practices in both Queensland and New South Wales.

Over the course of his career, Drew has honed skills in agricultural marketing and sales, Agribusiness Banking and financial services and strategic growth of agribusinesses.

Now as a Senior Consultant at AgriPath, Drew focuses on enhancing client profitability, specialising in dryland, irrigated cropping & livestock enterprises.

Drew will lead our Farm Business & Financial Management module, helping participants to understand the numbers that sit behind the decisions made in the paddock.

The best agronomic recommendations are those that make sense for the whole farming business. Drew will help us to understand the financial drivers, business objectives, cash flow, risk, and return on investment behind every decision, so that we, as agronomists, farmers and farm managers, can build agronomic solutions and make decisions that move the business forward.

The power of working with advisors and managers that understand the farming business, the production and financial goals, and the trade-offs involved in every decision is incredibly fruitful. Making good agronomic decisions and making good business decisions can be symbiotic, if you know how.

Leading our first day of our upcoming Tamworth Accelerator event will be Dr Chris Preston, a Professor of w**d management and highly respected w**d scientist.

Chris has extensively experience, backed by highly regarded research in the management herbicide resistant w**ds & we can’t wait to dive deep into Applied W**d Science with him.

Dr Preston will be sharing his knowledge and expertise in w**d evolution in farming systems, herbicide behaviour in our soils and plants and understanding herbicide resistance.

Most excitingly, Dr Preston is going to be running a Q&A session where our participants can bring all their burning questions to work through the answers that they need for the paddocks they work in taking our theory into the real world.

When we created The Agronomy Academy Accelerator for Agronomists, Farmers & Agri Business Professionals because we know that the gap between traditional studies and real-life experience is one that is hard to bridge in today's modern world.

We saw that there were incredible agronomists, farmers and Agri professionals struggling to find the right mentors who have the time to answer questions.

Farming and Agronomy is high pressure, long days and nights and the people who have been on the ground, watching, learning and doing don’t have the time or space to bridge the gap in their day to day.

That’s where we come in.

We select the professionals who have the practical experience coupled with a passion for learning and applied knowledge and bring them together for 4 days to not only share, but to answer questions and mentor mid career agronomists, farmers & agri professionals.

We want more people in paddocks who have experience, technical knowledge AND the wisdom to bring it all together. Will you be one of those people?

Here’s the question we often get asked: will technology or AI replace agronomists or farmers?

Our answer, based on what a wise, knowledgeable and well respected Agronomist once said to us is “nothing replaces boots in the paddock”

AI and Ag Tech can create information and give us data, but having the wisdom to understand what matters, what does not, what fits the situation in front of us and what action will create the best outcome is something only an agronomist or farmer can decide.

It requires boots on the paddock, a keen eye, curiosity, great communication and a willingness to see what’s in front of us coupled with what technology tells us to take agronomy into the future.

Our message for all farmers, agronomists & agri professionals right now is to:
- remain informed
- stay curious
- challenge ideas
- ask great questions
- be interested in new technology
- read the research &
- most importantly keep learning!

Here’s what we don’t often share about creating spaces like these for Agronomists & Farmers:

1. We ourselves are agronomist and farmers, which means to take 4 days off farm we peddle like crazy to make sure everything is in order before we head away.

2. Along side our businesses we call on precious family to keep our households and children safe, fed and happy!

3. We plan for months to bring you brilliant networks, brief our technical specialists, organise venues and catering, ensure that the print outs are correct. Make last minute changes, write name tags and make sure every tiny detail comes together so our participants can simply arrive and learn.

4. Then, for four days, we deliberately take off our every day hats and lean into learning and being inspired. We ask questions, challenge our thinking and learn alongside our participants.

5. At the end we close the doors full of inspiration and motivation to keep delivering against our mission to empower the next generation of agri professionals with the skills, confidence and community to make better decisions for Australian Agriculture.

A huge shout out to everyone who committed to this four day event with us! It’s no mean feat and you deserve a round of applause!
