SCIENCE & SENSORY FUN 🍓🍊🍋
After our exciting excursion to IGA last week, we continued the learning back at the centre with a hands-on fruit and vegetable science investigation!
Our little scientists explored a colourful selection of apples, oranges, strawberries, blueberries, lemons, spinach, carrots and cucumbers using all five senses. 👀👃👂👅✋
Together, we discovered what was hiding inside each fruit and vegetable, asking questions like:
🍓 "Does it have seeds?"
🍊 "Where are the seeds?"
🥒 "Why does this one feel different?"
The children loved squeezing fresh oranges and strawberries to make juice, feeling different textures, comparing colours, smelling the delicious aromas, and tasting a variety of healthy foods. They even listened to the sounds the fruits and vegetables made when they were cut, squeezed and crunched!
Our investigation table was filled with fresh produce, a citrus juicer, cups, colourful resources and matching flashcards, encouraging rich conversations, new vocabulary and plenty of curious thinking.
Experiences like these support children's scientific inquiry, language development, fine motor skills and confidence to explore healthy foods - all through the joy of play-based learning!
