Early 80s Whitebridge locals, this one’s for you.

Who remembers the Binishell at Gateshead High School? Before our current hall was built, this dome-shaped wonder hosted school functions, assemblies and who knows what else. It was part of a very 70s government idea for fast, cost-effective school buildings, which apparently translated to: “What if we just inflated the hall?”

At the time it was sold as revolutionary and futuristic. Looking back, it was giving strong UFO-meets-school-camp energy.

It was the 80s. The hair was big, the music was loud, and our temporary school hall looked like it had been borrowed from a sci-fi movie on SBS.

Dick Punch!
Whilst we would normally be wishing you all a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year, this year has turned out to be a real stinker!
Covid, lockdowns, border closures, economic downturn, travel restrictions, lack of basic commodities and losing our friends/family (and not just from Covid)… :-(

Our grandparents would only speak in whispers about the “Great Depression”.. .. but it's now our turn.

Let’s be strong, drive safely, masks on, social distance, not get complacent, hug our family & friends (even the weird uncle) and tell them how much you love them…. and look towards a brighter 2021. Catch you all on the flip side, my friends.

WHS is closed tomorrow due to the fire risk.

More than 600 schools and colleges will be closed on Tuesday due to bushfires across New South Wales and Queensland.
