Julian claims Orange Open Title

The youngest Dinham came away with his third adult open win this year at the Orange Open. Julian came out of the sheds slow but his high game of 290 in Game 3 boosted his position and helped him avoid a dip in standings. From Game 7 he began to surge as he found a better, more consistent line of play and took the lead after G8. From there and throughout the finals stage his pole position was never challenged – steadily extending his advantage as the tournament progressed. Congratulations Julian!

Finishing fourth was Justin Dinham, a result that looked unlikely after the 10-game qualifying block, where he sat 18th while battling carry issues. Day 2 told a different story: he posted mid-to-high 200s in eight of his 10 games and flipped his tournament with a 222.3 average for the day, falling just 17 pins short of the podium.

Jordan Dinham (10 Pin Bowling with Jordan D) finished sixth after a steady weekend built on consistent low-to-mid 200 games. Like his brother Justin, he struggled at times with pin carry – particularly after long strings of strikes – and one standout score could have been enough to push him onto the podium. Even so, he lifted his day average by more than six pins per game and improved his final position by two places.

Congratulations to Robert Townsend (2nd) and Scott Robertson (3rd). Congratulations also to the other Regional Renegades representatives: Nathan Shoesmith (8th), Kyle Annetts (11th), and Amy Shoesmith (female, highest average outside the cut).

Thanks to coach Chris Batson for all the guidance as always—and for watching the livestream. The team is incredibly lucky and grateful to have you. Thanks also to Orange Tenpin Bowl and their staff for another well-organised, well-run tournament. Until next time…

Minor Wins Back-to-Back at the Australian Open

Who would have known that an underage could win a major Open title, let alone a back-to-back – two ways? One, as an Australian Open (AO) champion and the other, consecutive Open division titles in 2026 (QLD Kegel Open in March followed by AO). Well, it just happened this Easter weekend. Julian Dinham, the 17-year-old New South Welshman, was unstoppable on the lanes. Steadily increased the gap as the competition heated up – 54 after Day 1; 289 after Day 2, 296 after Top 20, 428 after Matchplay Round. His ability to adapt to changing lane conditions and maintain focus under pressure set a new benchmark for bowlers nationwide. With this remarkable achievement, Julian has firmly established himself as one of the brightest young talents in Australian tenpin bowling.

Jordan Dinham, Julian’s brother, was the closest threat. At some point either briefly took the lead or levelled up until the last few matchplay games. Another brother, Justin Dinham, was dancing around between 4th and 8th positions. His best session was the 6-game sprint where he averaged 223.5 and further improved his placing in the matchplay round.

With the brothers exchanging impressive shots and high scores throughout the event. Despite the intense sibling rivalry, the brothers showcased impressive skill and determination, pushing each other to deliver his best performance, highlighting exceptional talent within the Dinham family, thanks to coach Chris Batson. Relentless Julian managed to pull further ahead in the final stages, securing his historic victory.

Thanks to Wyncity Keon Park Bowl for hosting the event and its friendly staff.

A Welcome Challenge

Lane conditions surprised youth bowlers in the Wyncity Youth Cup – the first TBA youth ranked event for 2026. Most struggled to find good carry and consistent ball reaction. Lots of brooklyn shots and frustrations. But the field soldiered on to do their best and learn from the experience. Consistent shot making and quick decision making were needed to keep the game up. The challenging conditions provided valuable lessons for everyone, as each bowler had to adapt their strategies and remain focused under pressure. It was a real test of resilience and skill, pushing competitors to step up their game and make adjustments on the fly.

Justin Dinham is one of them who embraced the experience. His game play was to close frames as strikes were hard to come by. He was consistently in the Top 6 throughout the qualifying round and rose to 2nd in the Top 12, Stage 2. Placed second mostly in the final stage until the matchplay where he shot 8 pins short to maintain his position.

Congratulations to Justin on finishing 3rd! Next up… the Australian Open, playing at the same venue.

Thanks to coach Chris Batson, event organisers and Wyncity Keon Park Bowl staff!

Zambo Cup, the first event in the NSW Regional Bowling Tour for 2026, was held last weekend at Dullboy's Social Co. in Warners Bay, NSW. The venue offered top-notch facilities and friendly staff.

Following on from TBA’s lead, the tour has also adopted the 78D Rule for the season, taking its supporters to unchartered territories. This new regulation adds an extra layer of strategy and excitement, encouraging bowlers to rethink their approach and adapt to evolving lane conditions.

Taught from an early age to always face challenges head on, Jordan Dinham (10 Pin Bowling with Jordan D) bowled two 278 games in its 2-game block straight out of the gate. Most shrugged it either as “luck” or “it’s early in the game, things will change”. But after lane change, to everyone’s astonishment, Jordan bowled a 280 followed by a dip (191) in the next game. And there was no looking back after that as Jordan continued with high games (267, 234, 244 and 238) with NU 2.0. His consistent performance on the tricky oil pattern set a new standard for the tour and left fellow competitors in awe.

With a 278-pin lead from his closest rival, Jordan was hoping to repeat yesterday’s performance in the final stage. The lanes played differently. He tried different strategies but could only manage a 201 average. However, with a formidable lead, it is difficult to catch him but a 170-day average. Despite the challenging conditions, Jordan’s determination and tactical adjustments kept him ahead. His ability to stay composed under pressure solidified his top standing.

Congratulations Jordan! Also, congratulations to Julian Dinham Dinham on taking 3rd place. Julian held the title in the past two years. Rounding up the top three is Darrin Honeysett in 2nd place. Congratulations Darrin! Their exceptional performances and sportsmanship made the event truly memorable, setting a high benchmark for the rest of the NSW Regional Bowling Tour.

Congratulations to all the finalists, especially Justin Dinham (13th place). Well done to all participants for contributing to a fantastic start to the season.

Thanks to coach Chris Batson, all the sponsors, event organisers and Chris Thorley for a well-run event.

Dinham wins the Kegel QLD Open

Like many bowlers, Julian Dinham is an avid fan of the best and most popular bowling ball ever made, the Purple Hammer. Dinham won many competitions with it in his arsenal over the years. Kicking off the year with a win in his first national ranked event in 2026 and at the inception of the 78D Rule only showed his real ability as a tenpin bowler. His consistent performance and adaptability to changing regulations make him one of the most respected figures on the Australian bowling scene. Dinham’s dedication to the sport and his ongoing pursuit of excellence inspire both seasoned and up-and-coming bowlers across the country.

Dinham had a slow but steady climb in the 3-day event. Placed 13th in the qualifying round then to 7th after the first cut-off and improved his position further to 3rd leading up to the stepladder finals. His determination was evident throughout each stage, as he handled the mounting pressure with remarkable focus. The gradual rise in his standings reflected not only his skill, but also his ability to adapt to ever-changing lane conditions and fierce competition.

Like a calm swan, this 17-year-old faced more experienced bowlers with poise and composure. Each shot delivered to the best of his ability and within the boundaries of his planned strategy – applying slight changes where necessary. A clean sheet all throughout the three stepladder final games. His mature approach paid off after each matchplay win and only showed his true emotions to those close to him once he clinched on the title.

Congratulations to Julian and his coach Chris Batson! Also, congrats to Connor Frith and Jarrod Langford for your outstanding performance.

Thanks to Kegel, other sponsors and Caboolture Bowl & Mini Golf - Official team of staff and event organisers.

Special thanks to Joe and Jacob of Belmore Physiotherapy & Sports Injuries Centre for getting Julian back in tip top shape for the tournament.

The 2025 NSW Regional Tour Season Finals at Zone Bowling Tuggeranong marked a thrilling beginning to 2026, with standout performances from the Dinham brothers. Julian Dinham made a triumphant return from injury, delivering a perfect game in the Open Finals qualifying round. Meanwhile, Justin Dinham dominated his matchplay games, winning all four and positioning himself strongly for the stepladder finals. Jordan Dinham (10 Pin Bowling with Jordan D) also showed great form, finishing close behind with a solid 2-2 record.

The competition intensified as the remaining matchplay games concluded the following day. Justin ended with 15 points (5-2), while Julian secured 18 points (6-1), earning both brothers a spot in the Stepladder finals. Julian, seeded first, had a bye in Round 1, and Justin advanced through his match to set up a sibling showdown in Round 2. In a tightly contested game, Justin prevailed after Julian faltered in frame six, finishing 247-225. Justin maintained his composure in the final, clinching victory with a score of 215-204.
