Remembering Master Graham Kuerschner

Most of you might not be familiar with his name, but Graham Kuerschner was a pivotal figure in shaping the Wing Chun community that you’re a part of today.

Graham started his training in the early 1970s and quickly became one of the most respected members of Sifu Jim Fung’s Wing Chun Academy. He was the first to reach Level 5 in the school—a remarkable achievement that only a few have attained.

In 1991, he took a group from Adelaide to Hong Kong to train directly under Chu Shong Tin, Sifu Jim Fung’s teacher. This experience significantly influenced how Wing Chun was taught back home, bringing in a more relaxed and efficient approach to movement while remaining true to the core principles of the art.

Graham’s skills went beyond just Wing Chun. He also trained members of the Australian Army special forces and played a key role in developing the Krav Maga curriculum that’s now recognized worldwide. He contributed for many years to martial arts magazines. His primary focus was on the practical ramifications of martial arts used in real world applications and the legal consequences.

His teaching style was marked by precision and discipline, and his legacy lives on through the generations of students who have learned from the methods he helped establish.

We honor and express our gratitude to Master Graham Kuerschner for the vital role he played in laying the foundations we stand on today.
