Strongly inclusive, the College prides itself on its diversity as it welcomes students from all backgrounds and cultures. Edmund Rice College is a vibrant community that welcomes parental involvement in the daily life of the College. As a welcoming Catholic community we forge strong partnerships with local Parishes and Catholic schools, the University and other educational institutions, the Illawarra business community and a diverse range of social and cultural groups. Striving to live the charism of Edmund Rice and Christ’s example of service, we ask students to ‘Make a Difference for Justice and Peace’ through the Christian Service- Learning program. Inspired by the goals of the Edmund Rice Charter, it is more than a service experience, as reflecting on the act of serving others gives students a deeper understanding of the dignity and worth of all people and the natural world. They are challenged to articulate learning about their own spirituality as they make real-life connections to the marginalized in our ‘community classroom’.

RUGBY LEAGUE // On Tuesday, our Opens Rugby League squad headed to Holy Cross College, Ryde, for the NSWCCC Cup. Beyond the competition, it was a big day for our Year 12 boys, as they wore the ERC jersey for the very last time.

We faced some strong competition in what turned into a wet and muddy day of rugby league.

Match Results

Game 1: ERC 15 def. Newman Tech 0

Game 2: ERC 4 draw Marcellin College 4

Game 3: St John's Woodlawn 6 def. ERC 4

Plate Final: Parramatta Marist 8 def. ERC 0

Injuries during the pool games meant the boys entered the Plate Final with zero bench players. With no interchanges to refresh tired legs, the 13 on the field relied on pure heart, fighting until the final whistle under tough conditions.

Shoutout to Oskar, Max, Gus, Fletcher, and Jeremy for their standout performances and relentless work ethic all day.

A massive thank you to Mr Toohey and Mr Sullivan for coaching the team throughout the year. Finally, to our graduating Year 12s - Thank you for your dedication to ERC sport and for wearing the jersey with pride right to the end! 🙌

STUDENT LEADERS // After an extensive selection process and thoughtful reflection, the College is proud to announce the 2026/2027 student leadership team.

These exceptional young men have demonstrated their commitment by submitting outstanding applications and participating in a rigorous interview process. They were evaluated by a panel and received endorsements from both their peers and staff through our online voting system.

We are excited to introduce a group of students who we are confident will work together to guide and inspire the student body in 2026/2027. These leaders will be formally introduced at the upcoming College Assembly.

We wish them every success as they embark on their HSC studies and continue the legacy of leadership from past cohorts. Congratulations to all!

COMMUNITY // The ERC community has raised a staggering $13000 for SASSI - a service providing critical crisis accommodation for local women and children experiencing family and domestic violence and homelessness.
Sixty students from Years 7-9 helped raise funds by swapping their warm cozy beds for cardboard and hard floors during ERC’s annual Junior Winter Sleepout.
Our top three student fundraisers - Malakai and Samson (Yr) and Theodore (Yr 8) - were able to see how the money is helping those in need by visiting SASSI’s newly furnished apartment. They were joined by Old Boy and Managing Director of Colliers, Simon Kersten, who also personally contributed to furnishing the same unit. Seeing our current students standing alongside an ERC graduate really highlights what it means to be "men for others".
A heartfelt thank you to our top three fundraisers, and to all students who participated, as well as our parents and friends for their ongoing support.

DEBATING // Our Year 11 Team has won the prestigious NSW Catholic Schools Debating Association (CSDA) Competition. The winning performance of Isaac, Daniel, Sam and Jonathan - was a masterclass in using analytical skills, sophisticated arguments, and clever rebuttals to win the debate on the topic: ‘societies need dissent more than they need unity.’
ERC was also announced as the overall 'Best and Fairest School' in the CSDA competition. Given the large scale of this reputable event, this achievement speaks to the commitment of every ERC Debating Team and Coach throughout this season.
We thank Enrichment Coordinator Emma Schumack for her tireless commitment in providing such enriching learning opportunities for our students, and Year 11 Pastoral Care Coordinator Carmen Russell for her steadfast encouragement of this team.
Congratulations to all involved. We are very proud.

NAIDOC ASSEMBLY // The ERC community has gathered to celebrate NAIDOC Week 2026 - 50 Years of Deadly.
Our First Nations students showcased their cultural pride by sharing their thoughts on what NAIODC Week means to them, They also acknowledged the enduring legacy of First Peoples through their deep, ongoing connection to land and culture.
Year 12 First Nations Prefect Stirling, shared his own personal journey as a proud Wiradjuri - Wailwan man. Stirling then provided a moving rendition of Archie Roach’s song “Took the Children Away”, which is part of his HSC Music Performance component. His brother Baxter proudly played the Yidaki alongside him.
Deadly Excellence Awards were given to Year 12 students Jethro, Tex and Stirling, and Year 11 students Jarrah and Baxter. Kobi (Year 10) and Spencer (Year 8) also received Deadly Encouragement Awards.
We thank our First Nations Education Officer, Melanie Jennison, and the community for their involvement in the assembly: Uncle Peter Button, Aunty May Button and Brendan Newton. Their continued support of our First Nations students will ensure the next generation stays ‘deadly’.
