πŸ’› R U OK? Day at Headstart West Ryde πŸ’›

Today, we’re encouraging our children and families to wear yellow as we celebrate R U OK? Day and learn about the importance of caring for one another. 🌼

Through age-appropriate conversations, stories, songs and activities, we’re helping children learn that:
πŸ’› It’s okay to ask, β€œAre you okay?”
πŸ’› We can listen to our friends and educators.
πŸ’› We can use kind words and show care for others.
πŸ’› We can talk about our feelings and ask for help when we need it.

Our little ones looked wonderful in their yellow outfits, bringing lots of sunshine and smiles to our day! β˜€οΈπŸ’›

Let’s continue to create a caring and supportive community where everyone feels safe, heard and valued.

πŸ’› Learning About Feeling Safe & Listening to Our Feelings πŸ’›

At Headstart West Ryde, we have been supporting children to understand that their feelings matter and that it is important to listen to what our body and brain are telling us. πŸ§ πŸ’›

Through songs, group discussions and engaging learning experiences, children explored what it means to feel safe, comfortable, worried, unsure or happy. We encouraged children to listen to their feelings and learn that it is okay to speak up and ask for help when something doesn’t feel right. πŸ—£οΈβœ¨

🎢 Learning through songs
Songs and movement helped children explore different emotions in a fun and meaningful way, while developing their confidence to talk about how they feel.

πŸ’ Exploring different situations
Children discussed different scenarios and shared how they might feel in each situation. They listened to one another and practised respecting and acknowledging each other’s feelings.

🎨 Expressing through drawing
Children used drawing to express their thoughts and feelings. Their drawings gave educators opportunities to listen to children’s ideas, understand their perspectives and encourage them to communicate their emotions.

🌱 Building confident voices
These experiences support children to develop emotional awareness, self-confidence and a strong understanding that they have a voice, their feelings are important, and trusted adults are there to listen and support them.

Every feeling is worth listening to. Every child deserves to feel safe, heard and respected. πŸ’›

πŸ’› Celebrating Wattle Day at Headstart West Ryde! πŸ’›

What a beautiful way to celebrate Wattle Day! Our children across different age groups have been exploring the beauty of wattle through hands-on learning, creativity and connection with nature. 🌿✨

🌱 Nursery
Our youngest children explored wattle through sensory experiences, using their senses to touch, smell and observe the natural materials. These experiences supported their curiosity and early sensory development. πŸ‘ΆπŸŒΌ

🎨 Toddlers
Our toddlers enjoyed creative experiences inspired by the bright yellow wattle flowers. Through painting, collage and nature play, they explored colours, textures and developed their fine motor skills. πŸ–ŒοΈπŸ’›

🌼 Preschool
Our preschool children investigated real wattle, talking about its colour, shape, smell and where it grows. They used the wattle as inspiration for art, storytelling and group discussions, building their knowledge and appreciation of the Australian environment. πŸ”πŸŒΏ

🌏 Learning through nature
Wattle Day provided opportunities for children to connect with Australian nature, develop their sense of belonging and explore the world around them through play and inquiry.

We love seeing how one natural resource can inspire different learning experiences for every age group! πŸ’›πŸŒΌ

🚲✨ Little Riders in Action! ✨🚲

Last week, our toddlers had so much fun continuing their bike riding experience! πŸŒΏπŸ’›

The children enjoyed riding, exploring and practising their skills as they moved around our riding area. Through this experience, they had opportunities to develop their gross motor skills, balance, coordination and spatial awareness, while also building confidence and independence.

We loved watching the children encourage one another, take turns and proudly show off their riding skills! 🚲😊

Every ride is a new opportunity to learn, explore and grow. 🌱✨

βœ‚οΈ Today in our Toddler Room, we practised cutting and explored activities that helped extend our fine motor skills. Through hands-on experiences, the children developed hand strength, coordination, and scissor control while building confidence and independence. 🌟
It was wonderful to see their focus, determination, and pride as they practised this important developmental skill. Every snip helps strengthen the little muscles needed for future writing and everyday tasks! πŸ’›

Our children had so much fun exploring their creativity with colourful yarn and frames! 🧢🌈

They loved designing and creating their own unique pieces of art while strengthening their fine motor skills through weaving, threading, and wrapping the yarn. Activities like this encourage creativity, concentration, hand-eye coordination, and confidence as each child brings their own ideas to life.

We are so proud of their wonderful creations and the enthusiasm they showed throughout the activity! 🎨✨
