What a night at the Aitken College Winter Music Soiree!

ISV's Chief Executive, Rachel Holthouse, joined Evan Mulholland MP and the school community for a wonderful evening of music. From senior ensembles to soloists and VCE Music students, the performances were a true showcase of what students can achieve.

A lovely reminder of the vital role the arts play in our Member schools.

Yesterday, the ISV team came together to mark National Reconciliation Week with a morning tea full of story, reflection and conversation.

The team watched a short video of Woodleigh School's incredible partnership with the Wugularr community in the Northern Territory, a connection that continues to grow through cultural exchange and shared learning.

We then sat with conversation cards by Gumbaynggirr artist, activist, and youth leader Aretha Brown, talking openly about First Nations histories, cultures and perspectives.

This year's 'All In' theme is a reminder that reconciliation is something we all play a part in.

Sometimes the impact of a great teacher comes full circle.

Back in 1991, David Williamson was a young art teacher at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School, proudly displaying the artwork of one of his Prep students, Chris Hocking.

Fast forward 35 years, and Chris is now ISV’s Multimedia Producer, visiting schools to film art programs and interview teachers – including Mr Williamson, now Head of Art and Design at Camberwell Grammar School.

During the visit, Chris surprised his former teacher with that same childhood drawing.

Some things change over time, but after all these years, he’ll always be Mr Williamson to Chris.

'Our students are continually forming relationships and our schools continually forming relationship with these remote schools in the NT and have been doing that for a long, long time.' – David Baker, Woodleigh School

As part of National Reconciliation Week (NRW), we connected with Woodleigh School about its 17 year partnership with the Wugularr community in the Northern Territory, grounded in cultural exchange and two-way learning.

We also came together at ISV for our NRW morning tea, reflecting on this year’s theme, All In, and the role of schools in advancing reconciliation through meaningful action.

The SAS Principals and Leadership Network hosted at David Scott School recently brought together school leaders to discuss current sector challenges.

Key discussions highlighted the positive impact ISV’s new Flourish partnership will bring in strengthening wellbeing support across Member Schools. Schools also raised ongoing concerns around NCCD requirements, including audits, evidence expectations and funding uncertainty.

The briefing was an opportunity to share experiences and strengthen understanding across the network. ISV remains committed to listening, amplifying school voices, and advocating for greater clarity and consistency moving forward.
