Our Grade 5 classes had an excellent excursion to Parliament House today.

This is part of their inquiry, exploring the big questions, β€œDoes democracy really give everyone a voice?” and β€œWho makes the decisions and why?”

The children watched the politicians in action!

It was exciting to see them debate and to see some well known politicians!

Last night, our Lansdowne debaters travelled to Taroona Primary School for another fantastic round of debating, tackling the thought-provoking topic: "Electric cars are the best solution for climate change."

The growth we are seeing in our Grade 5/6 students each fortnight is truly remarkable. Their courage to stand in front of an audience, their conviction in presenting arguments, and their confidence in rebutting opposing views continue to strengthen with every debate.

We have 25 students involved in our debating program for 2026 and 15 proudly representing Lansdowne each round.
Debating provides authentic, real-life learning opportunities that develop critical thinking, teamwork, communication skills and active citizenship.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students are embracing the challenge and finding their voices.

A huge thank you to Alanna Carne (a special Lansdowne alumni staff member) and the Taroona Primary team for hosting another wonderful evening of debating! πŸ‘πŸŽ€πŸŒŸ

🌈 Zones of Regulation Across Lansdowne 🌈

Our whole-school wellbeing inquiry this term is exploring the question: "What is courage and how do I show it?"

One way we are developing courage is by learning to recognise, understand and work through our feelings using the Zones of Regulation. Students are building strategies to manage emotions, navigate different zones, and move towards the optimal state for learning, connection and success.

It takes courage to acknowledge how we're feeling, ask for help when needed, and try strategies that support our wellbeing.

We are proud of the thoughtful conversations and growth we are seeing across our whole school community as students develop these important life skills. πŸ’™πŸ’šπŸ’›β€οΈ

πŸ† And the winner is... Lansdowne! πŸ†

A huge congratulations to our two Lansdowne Maths Relay teams who battled it out today at Rosny College. What a fantastic way to spend a Sunday morning, celebrating a love of mathematics alongside students from schools across the region.

Both Lansdowne teams represented our school with enthusiasm, teamwork and outstanding problem-solving skills.

A special congratulations to our Grade 6 team of Rex, Esben, Felix and Perry, who took out first place in the morning competition! That is an absolutely incredible achievement.

A big thank you to Mrs Bernes and Ms Hawkins for coming along and supporting the teams today.
