🎥 Chillie Check-In with Liam!

When people think about building social skills, they often think about what happens during a Chill session. But some of the most important learning happens outside of Chill too! That's where Chill Outs come in.

Chill Outs give our Chillies the opportunity to put their social and communication skills into practice in real-world settings, while having fun, trying new experiences, and connecting with like-minded peers. For many Chillies, it's where friendships grow, confidence builds, and new connections are made. It's a chance to step outside their comfort zone, share experiences with others, and strengthen the skills they're developing at Chill.

As Liam shares in this week's Chillie Check-In, Chill Outs are more than just a social event – they're an important part of the Chill journey. Check out Liam's thoughts below 👇

🎨 Creativity. Connection. Curiosity.

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝟑 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐅𝐔𝐋𝐋, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐀𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧!

This term, our artists have been exploring the fascinating theme Cabinet of Curiosity – collecting, creating and discovering all kinds of weird, wonderful and imaginative treasures.

From designing their own unique curiosity cabinets using cardboard, plaster and mixed media, to creating travel cards inspired by destinations around the world and different artistic movements, our Chillies have been stretching their creativity, sharing ideas and building confidence and social skills through art.

And that's what Chill Art is really all about.

It's not just about creating artwork – it's about creativity, connection, self-expression and discovering what's possible. Whether working independently or collaborating on a large-scale group project like the one pictured, every artist brings something unique, and every artwork tells a story.

It was awesome to see you take on the term theme of generosity and share more generously with those you were chatting to. I saw that you and 🌶️ were having a chat in the break and you gave him some super generous responses! The more we share with people the closer our connections will get and you did a great job of that.

It was also cool to see you contribute so much to the group, you always have such relatable and interesting contributions that get the group discussion flowing. I loved seeing you advocate for yourself when someone accidentally interrupted you in the check in. Standing up for ourselves is always a great skill to have and you did so in such a light way that made the whole interaction super smooth. 💬

Utilising our tone of voice is such an important social tool, and you made a great example of that in this session. You took every challenge in your stride and entered the group conversations with ease. Within those conversations you were a great listener and you asked some curious questions! Nice Work!

You have such a gentle and kind energy, and you hold yourself with such confidence. You give everything a go and are always up for a chat. These are just some of the fantastic attributes you have. Chill is lucky to have you around! 💫

Last week in No Problem.....our team were left with......a problem. So it was definitely time to recap how to make a 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐍:

❤️ 𝐏ersonal value
What matters to me?
This helps us focus on the part of the problem that we need to solve.

📋️ 𝐋ayout the options
What are my options?
There is always more than one option to choose from.

🤔 𝐀ssess the options
Is it possible? Is it safe? Is it kind?
This helps us eliminate any silly, dangerous, or unkind options. Sometimes our plans just need tweaking, by asking "How can I make this safer/kinder?"

🏃‍♀️𝐍ow do it
Choose an option and take action
Some plans take multiple steps, once you know your plan, take the steps to action it.

We get better and quicker at this process when we practise it, so our Chillies did just that, by discussing what matters, brainstorming options and assessing them. It was full of role plays, getting the mentors up to play out a heap of scenarios all based on our Chillie's suggestions. Here’s what our Chillies found:

🧊 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 is the safest and kindest thing we can do, for ourselves and for others.

🙄 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 and sometimes we need to gather more facts to assess the options.

💬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 with others allows them to be a part of the solution.

No one likes an awkward 'No'! In this Chill Skill we share some great tips on how to accept a No without it being weird in a conversation.

The thing to remember is that most of the time, when someone says 'No', it's not usually because of you. They could be busy, they might need to study or work or have tickets for something.

Check out this CHILL SKILL that has some fantastic tips on how to accept a No and get back to a great conversation.💬 💫
