MacKillop is a Catholic Coeducational Secondary College with two campuses inspired by the spirit of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

MacKillop Catholic Regional College began its life as a junior secondary school for girls in 1970. The initial enrolment was 102 girls in Years 7, 8 and 9 under the care and leadership of Sister Giovanni Farquer, the Principal, and Sisters Clare Schiltz and Zita Moore. The school consisted of one building divided into four classrooms, an office and a staff room. To commemorate the founder of the S

We all remember that one special teacher… someone who inspired us, supported us and encouraged us to be our best.

Today, that same kind of teacher is right here at MacKillop College.

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) is proud to once again support the Australia’s Best Teachers campaign, returning in 2026 to celebrate outstanding educators who make a real difference in the lives of young people.

Now in its fourth year, this national initiative shines a spotlight on the passion, dedication and impact of teachers across Australia, recognising those who help students feel known, valued and supported to thrive.

✨ We invite our MacKillop community to get involved!

Students, families and colleagues are encouraged to nominate a teacher who has made a lasting impact.

Last year saw thousands of nominations across MACS schools – a testament to the incredible work of our educators and the appreciation our community has for them.

📣 Nominations are now open!

During National Reconciliation Week, MacKillop College students came together to reflect, learn and actively engage in truth-telling as part of our Josephite Reconciliation Action Plan.

Following a meaningful liturgy, students visited the Mary MacKillop Heritage Centre chapel in East Melbourne before travelling into the city/Naarm. There, they paid their respects at the Tunnerminnerwait and Maulboyheenner memorial on the corner of Franklin Street and Victoria Parade — a powerful moment of recognition and remembrance.

These experiences continue to deepen our students’ understanding of reconciliation, history and the importance of walking together with respect.

MacKillop College proudly acknowledges National Reconciliation Week, held annually from 27 May to 3 June.

This important week celebrates the rich cultures and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while also inviting all Australians to reflect on how we can contribute to reconciliation in our everyday lives. It marks two significant milestones in Australia’s history — the 1967 Referendum and the 1992 Mabo decision — both of which were pivotal steps towards justice and recognition.

Throughout the week, our College community will take part in a number of meaningful activities:

- On Tuesday 26 May, National Sorry Day will be acknowledged through Homeroom and Morning Prayer, offering time for reflection on the Stolen Generations and the ongoing journey of healing and truth-telling.

- On Wednesday 27 May, selected senior students and our Catholic Identity School Captains will attend the “All in for Reconciliation” excursion, engaging more deeply with the call to action for reconciliation.

- On Friday 29 May, a special school announcement led by Year 7 students will highlight the importance of reconciliation, followed by a lunchtime gathering at Numurkah Hall celebrating culture, connection and community.

- On Tuesday 2 June, our College will come together for a Reconciliation Mass as part of our Tuesday Thrive Mass, providing an opportunity for prayer and shared commitment.

As a community, we are called not only to reflect, but to act — fostering understanding, respect and unity. We encourage all members of our College to engage with this week and continue the journey of reconciliation beyond it.

On 26 May, MacKillop College joins communities across Australia in observing National Sorry Day.

National Sorry Day acknowledges the Stolen Generations — Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families between the mid-1800s and the 1980s — and marks the anniversary of the Bringing Them Home report, tabled in 1997.

This day invites all Australians to reflect on the truth of our shared history and recognise the ongoing impact these policies have had on individuals, families and communities.

In 2026, the theme 'From Sorry to Action' calls on us to move beyond acknowledgement and towards meaningful change. Many Stolen Generations survivors continue to face challenges in accessing support, reconnecting with their histories, and receiving justice. As time passes, the urgency to act grows.

As a school community, we stand in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We encourage our students, staff and families to take time to learn, reflect, and commit to truth-telling, healing and reconciliation — not only today, but every day.
