🍜 Yummy Noodles by our Junior Creatives!

There’s something we love about giving kids a big A3 page.

At first it can feel like a lot of space.

Then slowly, the noodles get longer, the toppings get bigger, little details start appearing… and before we know it, there’s barely any white paper left. 😂

For this lesson, our Junior Creatives explored composition, shape, proportion and detail, while designing their own giant bowl of noodles.

And this is our favourite part…

Look how different they are.

We can teach the same lesson to a whole class, but we never want the same artwork coming back to us.

Their choices are part of the learning too. 💛

Big paper. Big ideas. Very yummy results. 🍜🎨

Tiny hands. BIG learning. 🎨💛

Our Mini Creatives are only 3–5 years old, and for many of them, this is their very first art class.

So we start with the little things.

How to hold and control our tools.
How to follow a shape.
How to draw BIG instead of teeny tiny.
How to listen, look and follow along.
How to choose our own colours.
And perhaps the biggest one…

How to have a go without worrying if it’s “right”.

Week by week, those little habits start to grow.

The lines become more confident.
They need a little less help.
They start making their own decisions.

And eventually, “Can you help me?” becomes…

“LOOK WHAT I DID!” 🥹

That’s what Mini Creatives is really about.

Yes, we’re teaching art.

But we’re also helping our littlest artists build confidence, independence and a love of creating from the very beginning. 💛

We asked a few of our young artists at the studio what they’ve learnt about Vincent van Gogh… and they had so much to share! 🎨🌻✨

Did you know Van Gogh created more than 2,000 artworks? He painted more than 30 self-portraits, loved using bright colours and often used thick, expressive brushstrokes that gave his paintings so much texture and movement.

We also discovered that Van Gogh had a difficult and often sad life, and that made us curious. Who was he? What inspired him? Why did he paint the way he did? And how did his feelings and experiences find their way into his art?

At our studio, we want children to experience art as more than simply making a beautiful picture. We explore the artist, their story, their techniques and the ideas behind their work, then give our young artists the freedom to interpret what they’ve discovered in their own way.

Because learning about art is also learning to look closely, wonder, ask questions, experiment and think creatively.

And sometimes, the best way to discover just how much they’ve taken in is simply to ask them. 💛

Here’s what our young artists had to say about Van Gogh… 🎥✨

This week in the studio, we’ve been exploring Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

Every term at A Little Bite Studio, we introduce our kids to different artists, art movements and ways of creating.

But we’re not teaching them to simply copy a famous artwork.

We want them to get curious.

Why did Van Gogh paint sunflowers again and again?
Why are some blooming while others are wilting?
Why can we see every brushstroke?
What happens when you look really closely?

Because when children learn about artists, they’re also learning that there isn’t just one way to make art.

They discover different techniques, materials, ideas and ways of seeing the world.

Then we encourage them to take that inspiration and make their own choices.

And that’s where it gets exciting because no two children’s artworks ever turn out exactly the same. 💛

That’s the point.

We’re not raising little Van Goghs.

We’re raising little thinkers. 🌻

Children who look.
Children who notice.
Children who question.
Children who aren’t afraid to create differently.

That’s the kind of art education we believe in.

💛 Save this carousel to explore Van Gogh’s Sunflowers with your child, and ask them one simple question:

“What do you notice?” 👀

Our littlest artists are taking their first steps. 🎨

At 3–5 years old, we’re not expecting perfection. We’re building the little habits that will grow with them.

Learning to listen and follow along.
Learning how to use their materials.
Learning to draw BIG.
Learning to make their own choices.
Learning to keep going when something feels tricky.

And slowly, week by week, you see something change.

They need a little less help.
They become a little more confident.
And that “Miss Joie, help me!” starts becoming…

“Look what I did!” 🥹

That’s what I love about our Mini Creatives.

Yes, we’re learning art. But these are also some of their first experiences of independence, patience, confidence and trusting their own little ideas.

Big learning happening in very little hands. 💛
