Amazing news for Parents and Care Givers. 👏
Giving kids the best start in life should be easy.
But the childcare system feels like it's designed to make it hard.
The fees are high - and getting higher.
It's hard to find a place at all.
And if you do, many parents – mainly mums – face losing money if they want to go back to work.
It just shouldn't be this hard.
So we're going to fix it.
For starters, we're making kinder in Victoria free.
From next year three and four-year-old kinder won't cost a thing. It'll mean up to an extra $2500 per child per year back in your pocket.
And to address the shortage of places, we're opening 50 government-operated centres in places without many childcare options.
At the same time, we'll start the biggest transformation of early education in our state's history:
A year of Pre-Prep for four-year-olds.
It'll be a 30-hour program of play-based learning at kinders to prepare kids for school.
And it'll be absolutely free.
These are big changes.
And they'll make a big difference.
For family budgets, for parents, for our economy.
And most importantly of all - for our kids.
