SENIOR SCHOOL | Biology beyond the classroom!
Our YR12 Biology students swapped the classroom for the coastline with an incredible day of fieldwork at Hastings Point. The day kicked off at the Marine Discovery Centre before students headed to the rocky shore to investigate local ecosystems firsthand. Working along transect lines, they collected data on species richness and explored the biotic and abiotic factors shaping the environment. Along the way, they got up close with sea stars, sea cucumbers and sea hares, with migrating whales providing an unforgettable bonus!
After lunch, it was off to the sand dunes to compare disturbed and undisturbed ecosystems and investigate the impact human activity can have on biodiversity and ecosystem health.
A fantastic day of hands-on Biology, real-world learning and time spent together in the great outdoors!
