One last practice before TI! 🖤💛❤️ 💚💙🤍

Our Dance Troupe came together for their final practice before heading up to Thursday Island tomorrow and there was plenty of energy around the place!

Our dancers have put in plenty of work to get ready, and tomorrow we begin the journey north to take part in the Torres Strait Kaziw Meta NAIDOC celebrations on Thursday Island.

We feel incredibly privileged to have been invited and can’t wait for our young people to share their culture and represent their families, communities and Western Cape College Boarding Campus with pride.

A great few days ahead for our young people.

Thursday morning, our Western Cape College Boarding Campus Dance Troupe will make their way up to Thursday Island to take part in the 2026 NAIDOC celebrations. 💙💚

We feel incredibly privileged to have been invited by Torres Strait Kaziw Meta to be part of their celebrations and to have the opportunity for our boarders to connect, share culture and celebrate alongside family and community.

We know our dancers are excited and judging by this post, Kaziw Meta is getting ready for us too! 🔥

We can’t wait to make our way across on Thursday and be part of what will be a very special few days.

🌟 Boarder of the Week – Keanu 🌟

A huge congratulations to Keanu, our Boarder of the Week! 👏

Keanu has been having a go at everything, always with a smile on his face, and it’s fantastic to see him thriving in our Education Study Program. His positive attitude, willingness to give things a go and commitment to his learning have been wonderful to see!

As part of his Boarder of the Week reward, Keanu also got to spin the wheel and won himself a Whiskey Wildflower voucher! 🎉

🚚 Something exciting is on its way to Weipa…👀

The wrap is on, the finishing touches are happening and in the coming weeks our brand new Western Cape College Boarding Campus Food Trailer will begin its journey to Weipa!

But this is about much more than serving food.

Our Food Trailer will become a learning space on wheels giving our boarders opportunities to develop hospitality and barista skills, experience customer service and events, build confidence, and gain practical skills they can carry into future education and employment.

And we couldn’t be prouder of how it looks. 🐊

Featuring the incredible artwork of Ivan Matasia, with connections to both Old Mapoon and Badu Island, the design ensures culture, identity and connection to community are embedded throughout our Food Trailer and form part of our boarders broader education journey.

Culture. Learning. Opportunity.

All coming together in one pretty special trailer.

We can’t wait to see this rolling into Weipa. 👀

🚓👮‍♂️ Boarders to Beyond: Exploring Careers in Policing 👮‍♀️🚓

As part of our Boarders to Beyond program, our boarders visited our local police station for a behind-the-scenes look at policing and the many career pathways available within the Queensland Police Service

Boarders toured the station, met with local officers, asked questions about their roles and got hands-on with some of the equipment and vehicles used to keep our community safe. 🚓🔦

It was fantastic to see our boarders engaged, curious and excited to learn more about the opportunities available right here in our community.

A huge thank you to and Senior Constable Matt Daniel and Weipa Police Station for welcoming our boarders, sharing their knowledge and inspiring them to think about their future careers. 🌟

Boys’ Mural Weekend 🎨

The boys brought plenty of energy to the mural project this weekend alongside Daniel Wallwork and Miss Daiana, getting hands-on and helping shape the look and feel of their side of campus!

From sharing ideas to painting, it was all about getting involved, working together and putting their own stamp on the space they call home. 👊🎨

A great weekend of creativity, banter and plenty of paint — we can’t wait to show you how it all came together!

Girls’ Side Mural 🎨✨

What a weekend! Our students got stuck in and helped bring the girls’ side of campus to life as part of our new mural project working alongside Daniel Wallwork and very own talented Miss Daiana.

With student voice, creativity and connection at the heart of the project, it’s been fantastic to see our boarders getting involved and helping shape a space they can feel proud to call their own. 💛

A big weekend of painting, ideas and plenty of laughs — stay tuned for the final product ! 🎨

🌟 Boarder of the Week – Skylar-Rose 🌟

Congratulations to Skylar, our Boarder of the Week!

Skylar has started the term with a new sense of confidence and has continued to be a regular and engaged member of our boarding programs. She has been stepping outside her comfort zone, joining in on new activities and giving things a go.

It’s been fantastic to see Skylar embracing new opportunities, getting involved and growing in confidence across boarding.

As part of her reward, Skylar got to spin the prize wheel and landed on a voucher for Whiskey & Wildflowers! 🎉

Well done, Skylar! We’re proud of the positive start you’ve made this term and love seeing you get involved and give new things a go. 👏
