This week at Annesley, we proudly took part in Bullying No Way Week, exploring this year’s theme: Small Acts, Big Impact.

Through classroom workshops and meaningful discussions, our students reflected on how simple everyday actions, showing kindness, inclusion, looking out for others, and having the courage to speak up, can help create a safe, supportive and respectful community for everyone.

We were also delighted to have Michael from our Annesley community capturing these important conversations through a special podcast series, giving students the opportunity to share their perspectives on wellbeing, belonging and student voice.

Together, we're learning that even the smallest acts can make a big impact.

Today, Annesley celebrated an outstanding performance at the Adelaide South East SAPSASA Athletics Carnival, with a record 40 students from Years 4-6 representing our school, our largest team ever!

Our athletes competed with determination, respect and enthusiasm, achieving our most successful carnival to date with 6 first places, 5 second places and 3 third places. We are also thrilled that five students have qualified to represent the Adelaide South East District at the upcoming district carnival.

A big thank you to Zac, Gail, Luke and Christian for supporting our students throughout the day, and to Zac, Gail and Penny for their dedication in preparing our athletes in the lead-up to the event. Thank you also to our families for their ongoing encouragement and support.

Congratulations to all 40 competitors. We are incredibly proud of the way you all represented Annesley!

Over the past three weeks, our Year One students have enjoyed an exciting journey exploring Adelaide Central Market as part of our Unit of Inquiry, 'Where We Are in Place and Time'.

Through visits to this vibrant community hub, students discovered a variety of cultural foods, chatted with stall holders, learned about money and pricing, and sampled some delicious local produce. These rich experiences helped deepen their understanding of our Central Idea: 'The marketplace reflects personal histories, culture and entrepreneurial pursuits'.

Now, the excitement continues as students begin creating their very own Year One Market in the classroom, bringing their learning to life through play, creativity and collaboration. We can't wait to see their market open for business!

We launched National Science Week today with our annual Science Fair, proudly hosted by our Year 6 students!

The Fair showcased Science in Action, with students leading a variety of hands-on experiments and investigations designed to engage, inspire and entertain. Every primary class had the opportunity to visit, explore and participate in the exciting learning experiences on offer.

The curiosity, problem-solving and enthusiasm displayed throughout the day was incredible to see. Science continues to be a valued part of learning at our school, encouraging exploration, discovery and a lifelong love of learning.

We are proud to be named a SASTA Science Active School for the third year in a row in 2026, because of our specialist Science program at Annesley.

Base 5 Quest

Last week, the Base 5 Quest journey took our students to Mountain Bike Park, Craigburn Farm. Every student gave their all to help build confidence and everyone challenged themselves at their own pace.

Our students demonstrated bravery as they tackled the trails and pushed through challenges. Equally impressive was the kindness shown throughout the day, with students encouraging, supporting, and cheering each other on. The positive attitude and teamwork displayed by everyone made the experience enjoyable and rewarding for all.

Well done to everyone for embracing the adventure and helping create such a supportive learning environment! 🌟

EARLY LEARNING CENTRE RE-DEVELOPMENT

Exciting changes coming to our Early Learning Centre!

We’re delighted to announce a new capital project for our school, the re-development of our Early Learning Centre to create beautiful new learning spaces for our youngest learners. The project will include rooms for tailored age groupings, enhanced indoor and outdoor learning spaces, and a new central community ELC space, featuring a kitchen, library and multi-purpose area and connecting all rooms.

Construction will begin later this month and completed early in 2027, with our ELC remaining fully operational throughout the project. We look forward to sharing updates as this exciting investment in our future takes shape.

BASE 4 HISTORY EXCURSION

This term, Year 4 students have begun researching how exploration of the world has brought both advantages and disadvantages to societies. As part of our inquiry, we spent a day investigating the historic Clipper Ship, City of Adelaide in Port Adelaide and visiting the South Australian Museum.

At the City of Adelaide, students explored the world’s oldest surviving composite clipper ship, built in Sunderland, United Kingdom, in 1864.

At the South Australian Museum, students participated in the Deadly Science Fish Traps STEM workshop. This hands-on challenge explored the engineering principles behind Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander fish traps and highlighted how these technologies were designed for sustainable harvesting across diverse environments. Students investigated how First Nations Peoples used their deep understanding of seasonal cycles, river systems, and species conservation to maintain ecological balance for future generations.

The excursion was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect their classroom learning with real-world experiences while developing a broader understanding of history, innovation, and cultural perspectives.

Our Year 6 students visited the VR Zone this week to extend their knowledge, skills and understanding in Virtual Reality.

After exploring VR creation and its future applications last term during Technologies lessons, students are now designing their own VR platform, with a focus on user experience (UX). During the excursion, they explored immersive VR games, photogrammetry from driving simulator racing experts, and discovered how Beyond OT uses virtual reality to support occupational therapy.

We are grateful for our partnership with VR Zone, who generously donated equipment to our school to add to our Technologies resources, so our students to continue their VR engagement at school with our talented Technologies Specialist Teacher, Jolanta.

A hands-on day of innovation and creativity.
