📝Before we begin a task, no matter how big or small, our minds play tricks on us and fill us with fear, doubt and uncertainty.
:
🧠It’ll convince us that now is not a good time, that we’ll do it tomorrow, that we need more information in order to get started.
:
👣But if we give in to this voice that tells us whatever we’re about to do will be hard and painful, we’ll never get to experience the relief, pride and sense of achievement that comes with overcoming these doubts and taking the first step.
:
💪So whatever it is you’re grappling with or procrastinating on, please know that it gets SO. MUCH. EASIER once you’ve taken the first step.

⚡️What fuels your energy and wellbeing, and what drains it?

🚰A simple way to view our energy and wellbeing is like a cup filled with water. When we engage in activities that fuel us recharge our batteries, we fill up our cup. While these activities will be different for everyone, for many of us they involve things like sleep, movement, hydration and meditation.

🧠This is contrasted with the activities that drain our cup, the ones that deplete us of energy, and take from our overall well-being. These activities could be sleep deprivation, work, study, parenting and excessive screen time.

🔋 In life, we will undoubtedly have times when our energy and wellbeing is leaking from our cup faster than it’s being replenished. For some of us, we only notice that this has happened when we are completely burnt out and running on empty.

💡The trick, therefore, is to have some tools and practices in our arsenal to draw from when our energy and wellbeing is suboptimal, because prevention is certainly better than cure.

💭Let us know in the comments, what fuels your energy and wellbeing, and what drains it?

📣Do you pay attention and give more air time to your good days or bad days?
💡As humans, we are wired to look for the problems and threats within our environment, and this was exceptionally helpful to our survival thousands of years ago.

💭The inclination to pay more attention, and give more weight to negative experiences over those that are either neutral or positive, is known as the negativity bias.
📌However, in today’s modern world, this tendency isn’t always helpful, and often means we’re overly-focused and sensitive to our limitations, mistakes, and what isn’t going particularly well for us.
🧠 While it’s certainly okay and normal for us to have days like this, by allowing our negativity bias to take over, we often forget to pay attention to our wins. These are moments, or even days, when we feel in flow, focused, and unstoppable.
🏃‍♀️ If we pay more attention to our good days, we can also learn to tune in to WHY we had a good day. Maybe you changed something small about your work environment. Maybe you did that workout after work instead of going straight home. Or maybe you managed to get some quiet time, or even squeezed in that 10-minute meditation you had been meaning to listen to for weeks.
✨Whatever it may be, if we put more of our energy towards pinpointing the circumstances surrounding our good days, rather than trying to analyse our ‘bad’ days and everything that went wrong, we’ll likely be able to replicate the same environment next time, and in doing so, make ourselves a lot better off.

🎉Happy weekend everyone!
🧠But wait, before you race through the next 2 days doing the same activities and spending it in the exact same way, why not approach it with a bit more intention and purpose?

🎁In todays society, self-care is often synonymous with indulgence or immediate gratification - think retail therapy, bubble baths, massages and extravagant holidays.
🧠While many of these activities aren’t inherently bad and in many cases actually do classify as forms of self-care, in reality, true self-care is often about delaying immediate gratification in service to doing something that will actually contribute to our long-term health and wellbeing.
Maybe self-care is:
🌙Taking yourself to bed early so you can get a restful nights sleep.
💰Choosing not to engage in excessive spending, and instead spending within your means or developing a budget.
✨Feeling your feelings, rather than squashing them down or trying to be happy 24/7
🧘Doing some gentle exercise instead of forcing yourself to sweat through an intense workout.
💭Let us know in the comments, what does self care look like for you?

🔔This is your reminder that your worth isn’t defined by how busy you are.
🗓Having a jam-packed schedule and not having time to think, feel, breathe or relax can in-fact lead to a loss of self that is quite the opposite of someone who knows their worth, importance, and has a clear vision of what success looks like.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Of course some jobs, (like being a first time parent to a newborn for example) demand this kind of relentless self-sacrifice, but we should be looking to define ourselves beyond merely our work, no matter how important the job may be.

🙅🏽Beware of the ‘all or nothing’ mindset! You know, the one that tells you you have to show up perfectly or not at all.
🧠We have to watch out for these stories we tell ourselves, as we can all too easily get stuck in a cycle of maladaptive-perfectionism.
👣Don’t underestimate the power of embracing imperfection, and valuing the small-steps, or the micro-effort.
💬Why don’t you try it out for yourself? Let us know if we’re wrong!

⚡️Just another daily reminder that the more you actually show up for myself, the more you’ll FEEL like showing up for yourself.
🧠Remember, action creates motivation, not the other way around.
💫If you’re in the messy middle of trying to establish positive changes in your work or life, practice showing up consistently, even in the smallest way possible.
💪This will create the motivation and momentum you need to show up in a bigger and better way next time.

🗓Doing something today that your future self will benefit from is one of the most powerful acts of self care. But what does this actually look like in practice?
:
🧠The answer will be different for everyone depending on their circumstances, but it doesn’t always have to involve big, bold gestures.
:
🧘🏽‍♀️It could be as simple as arranging a catch up with a friend, booking a gym class, or even packing yoirself lunch for the next day.
:
👩‍🏫 It could also involve signing up for that course or program you’ve been eyeing off, putting yourself out there and challenging yourself with new experiences, carving out time for solitude, or perhaps hiring a coach to guide you along the way.

👨🏻‍💻Sometimes we power through each week giving little thought to how it actually went.
💭If this is you, here are some powerful reflective questions to think about.
💡When we get into the habit of engaging in a weekly reflective practice, we can start to cultivate a greater sense of ownership and agency over our week, and think about our goals and ambitions much more strategically.
