💥Children constantly and subconsciously make decisions about themselves, the world, others, and how to behave in order to survive or thrive.
✨These decisions are based on their interpretation of life experiences and become their blueprint for life.
🙉Whether a child goes through life with a sense of trust or mistrust, faith or doubt, capability or shame, competency or guilt, much depends on how they are treated in the early years (and the subconscious decisions they make about their experiences).
😟If a child experiences numerous punitive tactics such as blaming, shaming, spanking, scolding, humiliation, or yelling, they will develop discouraging beliefs that can be challenging to reverse in adulthood.
🤔Many of us struggle with guilt, shame, and feelings of inadequacy and not good enougness often wondering where these beliefs originate from.
✨Fortunately, there are numerous non-punitive positive discipline tools that support children's natural development and foster encouraging beliefs for life.
Here are some of them:
✅Connection before correction
✅Respectful supervision, distraction, and redirection
✅Encouraging curiosity through questions (what, why, how) to develop thinking, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and autonomy
✅Involving children in focusing on solutions rather than dwelling on the problem itself
✅Offering limited and age-appropriate choices
✅Using a loving, kind, and firm approach
✅Building on a child's strengths rather than solely focusing on weaknesses.
💪By understanding basic child development, age-appropriate behaviors, and non-punitive parenting methods, you can help your child thrive and gain confidence in your parenting abilities.
This understanding will allow you to enjoy your child more, see him as a competent learner with unlimited potential, and intentionally support their natural development.
