From the School heat, to the Faculty Finals, and all the way to the Deakin University Grand Final, Ali Khalafizadeh and Nasrin Zamani have showcased the power of research communication through the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition!!

Representing the School of Medicine with excellence, they captivated audiences by transforming complex research into engaging, accessible stories. Their journey reflects not only outstanding research but also dedication, resilience and the ability to inspire others through science.

A special congratulations to Ali, who was awarded both the People’s Choice Award and Runner-Up at the Grand Final for his presentation, “Cancer’s Partners in Crime”, highlighting how understanding the mechanisms behind metastasis could help advance cancer research.

👏 We are incredibly proud of Ali and Nasrin for representing MRSA and the School of Medicine so brilliantly throughout every stage of the competition.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for MRSA x DUBS‘s Medical Research Night! It was wonderful to see so many students come together to learn, connect, and be inspired by our incredible panel of guest speakers.

From hearing about different career paths in medical research to asking thoughtful questions during the Q&A, the evening was filled with insightful discussions and valuable networking opportunities. We also hope everyone enjoyed the icebreakers, prizes, and, of course, the delicious Vietnamese dinner! 🍜🎉

We are excited to welcome Dr Amna Siddiqui, a Teaching Fellow and Graduate Researcher at Deakin University, to Medical Research Night.
With more than 15 years of experience in medical education and biomedical research across multiple countries, Dr Siddiqui brings a wealth of knowledge to the field. Her current PhD research investigates colorectal cancer metastasis using zebrafish models, contributing to our understanding of cancer progression and potential future treatments.
