Deakin University IEEE Student Branch is excited to invite Deakin students taking part in the IEEE Victorian Section Inter-University Robotics Challenge 2026.

Join us for a hands-on robotics experience where youโ€™ll build and program a robot, put your skills to the test, and compete for the fastest time. Whether you're from a STEM background or not, this is your chance to dive into hands-on robotics, no prior experience needed!

We want to invite Deakin University students to participate in the IEEE Victorian Section Inter-University Robotics Challenge 2026, organised by the IEEE Victorian Section STEM Outreach Program and supported by the Deakin University IEEE Student Branch.

This Tier 1 robotics competition offers students a hands-on opportunity to learn, build, program, and compete in robotics. Selected teams will progress to the Tier 2 Victoria State-Level Final in October 2026.

Event: IEEE Victorian Section Inter-University Robotics Challenge 2026

Theme: Build. Code. Innovate. Compete.

Open to: All students (STEM and non-STEM)

Tier 1 โ€“ University Level: 13โ€“14 August 2026 (Waurn Ponds Campus)

Tier 2 โ€“ State Final: October 2026

Team Size: 2โ€“4 participants per team

Experience: No prior robotics experience required

Tier 1 Program

Day 1 โ€“ Workshop & Robot Building (13 August 2026)

โ€ข Introduction to robotics, hardware kits, and competition rules

โ€ข Learn robot building and programming basics

โ€ข Build and test robots using provided professional hardware kits

โ€ข Receive beginner-friendly guidance and technical support

Day 2 โ€“ Competition Day (14 August 2026)

โ€ข Final testing and competition preparation

โ€ข Teams compete in the robotics challenge: navigate the track, retrieve the object, and return it successfully

โ€ข Top-performing teams advance to the Tier 2 Victoria State-Level Final

โœจ Successfully concluded "Technology & Innovation in Industry" at the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), Deakin University, Waurn Ponds, hosted by the Geelong Regional Engineers Group (GREG) in collaboration with the Deakin IEEE Student Branch.

The event brought together students, researchers, academics, and industry professionals for an engaging afternoon focused on emerging technologies, intelligent systems, and real-world engineering innovation.

๐Ÿ”น The session began with insightful technical presentations, including:
โ€ข "User Adoption of Augmented Reality Technologies in Industrial Maintenance" by Igor Lima Dourado, highlighting how AR technologies can support human-centred maintenance systems and empower the future industrial workforce.

Deakin University IEEE Student Branch proudly hosted and collaborated with students and academics from University of Malaya during their visit to Deakin University ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡พ

The day began bright and early with the group departing from Southern Cross Station at 8:10am, travelling to Waurn Ponds and arriving at Deakin University around 9:50am, where they were warmly welcomed. This was followed by a short campus tour leading into the official program.

The morning sessions commenced with a Welcome Ceremony introducing the Deakin IEEE Student Branch and the School of Engineering, followed by an engaging seminar by Prof. Shady Mohamed on Signals and Systems. Participants then attended an insightful talk by Dr. Matt Jennings on *โ€œThe Solar Car Challenge: Prototype vs Production Challenges,โ€* highlighting real-world engineering innovation.

At the same time, a collaborative meeting was held between representatives from both institutions, including A/Prof Ir Ts Dr Chuah Joon Huang and Deakin School of Engineering leadership, to explore future academic and research partnerships.

The program continued with an informative postgraduate session and Q&A led by Dr. Ameen Gargoon and A/Prof Yanan Wang, providing valuable guidance on higher studies and research opportunities at Deakin.

Following this, participants enjoyed lunch and networking at the CADET foyer, fostering meaningful connections between students, academics, and professionals. The afternoon featured guided tours of Deakinโ€™s advanced facilities, including the Centre for Advanced Design in Engineering Training (CADET), High Voltage Lab, 3D Printing Labs, and the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), offering hands-on exposure to cutting-edge technologies and research environments.

The visit concluded with a return journey in the late afternoon, marking the end of a highly productive and memorable day.

IEEE SB Deakin University AGM 2026โ€“2027

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the IEEE Student Branch Deakin University Annual General Meeting (AGM). With the conclusion of the meeting, the new committee for the 2026โ€“2027 tenure has officially taken over the leadership of the Student Branch.

We extend our sincere congratulations to the newly elected team and wish them all the best in continuing the branchโ€™s activities, events, and professional initiatives. We are confident that the new committee will further strengthen collaboration, innovation, and engagement within the IEEE community at Deakin University.
