This is it.. the last Facebook post as Timbertown Early Learning Centre. What an amazing learning journey we have been able to share with you all. Thank you to everyone over the years that we have been fortunate enough to get to know and who trusted us with their children. We have had the best time and made some wonderful memories.
This book is closing, but a new one is just about ready to open...

Yellow Room:
Brie invited the children to engage in a cooking experience with her, making bliss balls for afternoon tea. They all sat at the table and waited patiently while Brie got the ingredients ready. Once, everything was ready, Brie held up the ingredients one by one and asked the children if they what they were and what they were going to be making with them. The children then took turns of pouring the ingredients into the bowl. Once, everything was in Brie turned the food processor on and they all waited as it mixed together. Then they all took turns of rolling the mixture into a ball and coating it in coconut.

Blue Room:
The rain kept us indoors today, so we engaged in a number of activities. We developed our fine motor skills and number recognition in the morning then came inside and started creating our own bird feeders using recycled custard cartons. The children requested we cut the fruit up to order for morning tea and we examined what the whole fruits looked like and spoke about what letters the fruit or vegetable started with. Next, we made playdough and the children used a range of tools to manipulate the dough.

Today was our party day... to say farewell to Timbertown as we know it. We had the jumping castle, played in pools and shells of water, had water fights and enjoyed some delicious party pies and sausage rolls. The children had lots of fun exploring and playing with their friends and educators.

Today, the children celebrated Australia Day! They played with beach balls and balloons that had the Australian flag on them, they got temporary tattoos with Australia Day themes and got to enjoy delicious sausage sandwiches with their friends and educators.

Yellow Room:
To follow on from the children’s interest in cooking yesterday, Brie offered the children the opportunity to make and play with some playdough. The children took turns to add the ingredients. They also smelt the peppermint fragrance Brie added to the mix. The children each got a portion of the playdough and moulded many different things from dinosaurs to pizza.

Blue Room:
We had a busy day caring for our environment today. The children watered the garden with water from the water tank and worm wee added from our worm farms, creating a super-rich fertiliser intended to give our garden a bit of a boost. We then emptied out one of the compost bins and added this to our watermelon garden, using the wheelbarrow and shovels to move the dirt. The children were excited to spot lots of worms amongst the compost and asked what we should do with them. Mel encouraged them to put them in the garden with the new earth to help create healthy fertile soil. Next, it was maintaining the compost bins. We turned them and added some dry leaves to create a balance with all our fruit scraps.

Yellow Room:
Today Raina and Cristy invited the children to do some cooking for our afternoon tea. The children took turns to grate and add different ingredients. The children had a turn with the assistance of Raina to crack an egg into the mixture then it was stirred and placed into trays ready for the oven.

Blue Room:
What a busy day we had! We started off making shelters in the dirt pit using sticks from around the yard. The children used their problem solving skills to work out how to balance their sticks and create their shelters. One of the children arrived with some banana water that he made at home after talking to his family about making it at school last week. We used his bottle and the 2 bottles we made to go on and water the gardens. Following on from our exploration of peacocks, we decided to make a peacock using some craft materials and resources from our garden. His name is Pedro. Mel brought in a book from the library all about peacocks which the children explored. We then made some bracelets with Bec and did some painting with Mel.

Yellow Room:
Raina and Cristy offered the children the opportunity to extend on their bubble experience from yesterday. The children helped to add some bubble mixture to the water and then took turns making the bubbles using an egg be**er. They then continued to add conditioner, glitter and shaving foam and watched what happened to the bubbles as they did. They took time to smell each of the ingredients and listened as the bubbles slowly popped.

Blue Room:
We had a busy morning painting with the food dye, trying to create some beautiful patterns like in our peacock feathers we explored yesterday. Isabelle then spent some time reading and counting with the children before offering a writing and drawing experience at the picnic table.

Yellow Room:
As an extension of last weeks slime and messy play, Raina invited the children to explore with the water, soap and a two-handled whisk. The children were very excited to experiment with this device – the whisk was a complicated instrument to use. While one hand holds the handle steady, the other hand guides the handle in a circular motion. Having to use your hands independently and with different actions can be very challenging. Once this skill was mastered, our friends were able to see the bubbles forming. Raina promoted the children’s play by offering encouragement and guidance throughout this whole learning experience. Raina also held out the bubbles for each of the children to touch – our friends marvelled in their beauty.

Blue Room:
The children engaged in a range of activities today. Bec and Mel offered the children a different experience for morning tea, providing them with all the fruits still whole and cutting them up to order. Bec gave the children the opportunity to explore their creativity and colour mixing using the watercolours on the concrete. We then took a close look at the peacock feathers and some printouts of peacocks, peahens and peachicks. The children were given the opportunity to draw and paint their interpretations of the feathers. When we came inside for rest time we watched a short video of the Peacock displaying his tail and listened to the sounds they make. Isabelle also offered the children an opportunity to engage in a game of fruit bingo.

Today, the children were busy exploring lots of creative experiences. Mel brought in a Peacock feather for us to investigate. We will use this in some activities during the week. Bec then offered shaving cream and food dye, where the children used the droppers to add a rainbow of colours. They then mixed the colours around to create some wonderful patterns. We moved on to making slime with cornflour, again adding rainbow colours to the slime. After this, we did some watercolour painting and chalk drawing on the oval.

Today the children were offered the opportunity to practice their cutting skills using scissors. The children helped Raina to collect some natural materials from around the yard, they picked a variety of leaves, bark and flowers. The children took a pair of scissors and cut up the natural materials, Raina and Cristy assisted the children who needed some support to operate the scissors safely.

The Greenies wanted to play in the sandpit this morning. Rhiannon uncovered the sandpit and Tammie got out some buckets and shovels. Children sat in the sand and filled their buckets with wet sand. Tammie and Rhiannon then assisted children with turning the buckets over and lifting them off. They quickly smashed their sandcastle down and filled the bucket up again to repeat. Tammie added some shaped moulds to the sandpit for children to try for themselves.
