🛸 TRANSMISSION FROM MISSION CONTROL - SCIENCE WEEK

Edna the Mad Scientist definitely arrived with a BANG! 💥

Edna touched down at Watervale Primary and wasted no time sharing her space experiments, her science know-how, and her infectious love of all things science with our students and educators.

🌙 She helped our students uncover the phases of the moon... using Oreos! (Turns out the moon is delicious, who knew?)

🚀 And then came the moment we'd all been waiting for — ROCKET LAUNCHES. 1 out of 3 made it safely to orbit... the other two had a few "unscheduled disassemblies" 😅🔥

Fizzing, erupting, and full of wonder — today was proof that science is a little bit chaos and a whole lot of curiosity.

INCOMING TRANSMISSION FROM MISSION CONTROL SCIENCE WEEK!

Mad Scientist Edna has been spotted leaving her secret space lab and is now ON HER WAY to Watervale Primary School!! 🛸✨

Her wild green hair is crackling with static electricity, her lab coat is packed with mysterious potions, and her travel bag is FULL of top-secret space experiments...
🌙 Erupting planets
🌌 Exploding galaxies in a jar
🪐 Zero-gravity astronauts
🚀 And one VERY explosive rocket fuel formula

We can only hope nothing erupts, fizzes, or escapes before she reaches the lab (aka our outdoor cover area) 💥

Cadets, get ready — tomorrow we're blasting off into a universe of curiosity, chaos, and chemical reactions! Who knows what discoveries (or disasters) await... 🔭🧪

A huge thank you to The Rising Sun for so generously allowing us to sell meat raffle tickets🥩

Funds raised will go towards a basketball and netball ring suitable for our Junior Primary students, giving them the chance to develop their skills, get active, and have some fun on the court. And who knows — it might even spark a little friendly competition between our students and educators! 🏀🏐😄

⚖️ What is mass? Our students found out hands-on!

Today’s maths lesson had students exploring the concept of mass by measuring everyday classroom items — pencils, glue sticks, blocks — and comparing which were heavier or lighter. They even got to measure the mass of a staff member's shoe and Curio was even weighed, comparing predictions with actual results and building their understanding of estimation along the way!

Through hands-on exploration, students practised using balance scales, made predictions, and started to understand that mass isn't the same as size — a small item can be surprisingly heavy, and a big item can be light!

At the end of the lesson, Mrs Hardy asked the class, "What are you wondering now?" One of our Reception students put their hand up and asked: "I wonder what the opposite of density is?"

What a wonderful question! It shows this student has already made a conceptual leap beyond the lesson itself — connecting mass to a related but more complex idea, and instinctively thinking about opposites and relationships between concepts. This is exactly the kind of curious, deep thinking we love to see at Watervale Primary — proof that when students are engaged and given room to wonder, their questions can take them well beyond where the lesson started!

⏰ When learning to tell the time turns into a whole-body maths lesson!

Our students have been learning how to read the clock — and they became the clocks! Using their arm as the minute hand, they pointed their way through o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to.

But that wasn't challenging enough for this crew. They decided to add their own twist — turning a quarter turn anti-clockwise or even three-quarters of a turn clockwise, to really test their thinking!

A maths lesson so good, they wanted to stop time altogether. 🕐
