A “Double Whammy” congratulations today at training for Sensei’s Jeremy Twigg & Ben Sims for receiving their Shodan Certificates from Shihan Hans de Jong.
To reach this level of competency in Jujutsu takes many years of diligent training & personal sacrifice to achieve
In fact it’s interesting to make mention that both Jeremy & Ben took exactly 28 years each, individually to accomplish this feat!!
Completing all the sections of the Shodan grading requirements to a high standard finishing off with the last component, the History of Jujutsu (rekishi) assignment handed in only days apart from each other.
Once again congratulations you two & we’re all proud to have you as members of Hans de Jong

Hans de Jong self defence school congratulates Aaron Capes
For receiving his 6th Dan certificate during class on Saturday. This achievement cannot be understated and takes many years of hard work & dedication to the art of Jujutsu to attain this level of recognition.
Shihan Aaron is a very competent martial arts practitioner and instructor of jujutsu and started with Shihan Hans de Jong when he was a young boy. Aaron has accompanied Hans both interstate & internationally assisting & teaching at jujutsu seminars and in September this year he will travel to Holland & parts of Europe with Shihan Hans to do exactly that.
We are lucky to have Aaron at our school as I’m sure many of our students attest to that & have benefited from Aaron’s Mentoring & tuition.
Once again well done Aaron & well deserved !!

Congratulations Today to Jeremy Twigg for passing his Second reflex grading towards his Black Belt (kuro obi)
& to his attacker/ partner Ben Sims who also Hans de Jong Self Defence would like to congratulate for passing his 1st reflex grading for Black Belt last Saturday.
Both very dedicated & talented jujutsuka practioners

Pretty sure this is an historical photo of Greenwood Binishell circa 1977 during it’s construction
Not sure when it was demolished but according to Shihan Hans de Jong it was flattened (raised to the ground) due to a flatter-roofed Binishell collapsing in the Eastern States!
I don’t think all those Bridgefalls had anything to do with it
But biblically speaking didn’t the walls of Jericho crumble when the Israelites marched around the city’s walls each day for seven days & then blew their trumpets ?
I’m just saying !!…..

40 years practising Jujutsu you think I would have perfected it by now...!!!

A big thank you (and even bigger Happy Birthday) to Sensei Craig Ma'har! Last Saturday, in celebration of his 50th birthday, Sensei Craig graciously hosted a seminar for students and friends of The Hans de Jong - Self Defence School and Self Defence Central Dojo. Focusing on the theory behind a number of different techniques, Sensei Craig demonstrated the practicalities of Jujitsu, and highlighted the importance employing leverage over strength. Thank you again Sensei Craig for what was a fantastic day of learning and training...and Happy 50th Birthday too!
