Term 3 was a big and exciting term for our Multicultural Leadership Group (MLG)! 🌏
Students took part in team-building challenges and heard from Deakin Connect about future pathways and opportunities for multicultural students. We also enjoyed a wonderful collaboration with Warrnambool East Primary School, where students heard from Somali professional basketball player and coach Yusuf Qaafow about his personal journey, before getting involved in a basketball clinic.
We were also fortunate to hear from South West Sport and Daisy Ye from Deakin CREATE, as well as the Founder and President of the Warrnambool Multicultural Association, who shared their experiences, insights and opportunities with our students.
A fantastic term of leadership, connection, culture and future pathways for our MLG students! 🌏🏀

In the last week of Term 3 students from our Year 9 SEAL class were invited to the ministerial opening of the brand new South West Tech School. Our students were able to tour the new facility and participated in the smoking ceremony to open the space. Students then participated in a Bushfood Innovations lesson, creating their own ice cream flavours using native ingredients, including some sources from Warrnambool College’s Indigenous garden. The students enjoyed experiencing all of the new technology available to them at South West Tech School, particularly the Boston Dynamics robot dog and have all stated they cannot wait to return.

What a way to spend lunchtime in the last week of term! Leesha Keegan opened our Open Mic with beautiful vocals, accompanied by Archie Buchanan on keys, before our College Soul/Funk Band got the crowd going with some great tunes! 🎸🎶

Late last term past student Jack Gore returned to the college to inspire the next generation of science students. He talked about pathways in the sciences and how he got to in to his PhD at Swinburn University. Jack's explanation of his research regarding the removal of blue-green algae from water supplies was fantastic along with his mindset of wanting to improve rural Victoria for the future was very uplifting.

Late last term the inaugural Greater Warrnambool EAL Learning Community meeting was hosted at Warrnambool College and created by the Warrnambool EAL Cluster to bring EAL educators from across the region together. We are extremely proud of one of our Year 12 Music Students, Leesha Keegan, for being 1 of only 16 students throughout Victoria who have been selected to participate in the Songmakers Academy this school holidays. The program has been funded by the Vic. Government through Creative Victoria and the Community Support Fund. Throughout the 3-day intensive workshops, Leesha will work alongside industry professionals, where she will write her own original songs and have them produced and recorded. This is a wonderful opportunity for Leesha- look out for this young performer in the future! Good luck, Leesha!
