3 months into a new job this podcast brings comfort. We can resist the discomfort of trying new things for the comfort of the feeling of mastery. But as humans “our default state is for growth”. I love the description of the dopamine curve - it drops initially as we are learning rapidly and feel like we may have made a mistake but then starts to trend upwards as we become more familiar with our new skills.
It makes me wonder how we provide this growth to mid-career vets? How can we encourage them disrupt themselves within our industry? What growth opportunities lie in clinical practice when you “could do it all in your sleep”? Particularly in a corporate world with few leadership roles on offer?
