What an incredible holiday break for our Mater athletes, with students achieving outstanding results across a range of sports both in NSW and on the international stage!

๐Ÿƒ Congratulations to Kyah (Year 8), who has enjoyed an incredible cross country season. During the holidays she claimed the U14 NSW Short Course Cross Country Championship in Dapto, before returning on the first day of Term 3 to win the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships. Earlier this season, she also took out the Athletics NSW Cross Country Championships, completing a remarkable run of victories against the state's best athletes. We wish Kyah the very best of luck as she prepares for Nationals later this term.

๐Ÿ Lily (Year 8) was part of the Manly U14 representative netball team that finished equal third at the State Championships after three days and 19 hard-fought games. Following the championships, Lily was selected in the NSW Talent Identification Program, a fantastic and well-deserved recognition of her ability. Congratulations, Lily!

๐Ÿ€ Tyra (Year 9) represented Samoa in basketball at the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup in Thailand, helping her team finish fifth. An amazing achievement to compete on the international stage against players up to four years older. Well done, Tyra!

โšฝ Maddy (Year 9) and Zara (Year 7) both represented Manly Warringah at the Football NSW Association Championships in Mudgee. Maddy's U15 team finished runners-up after a narrow 1-0 grand final loss to the Central Coast, while Zara's U14 team went through the tournament undefeated to win the grand final 3-0 against Northern Suburbs. Outstanding efforts from both girls!

๐Ÿ„ Thomas (Year 7) has been named the 2026 Nipper of the Year, a prestigious award recognising young surf lifesavers who demonstrate outstanding dedication, sportsmanship and commitment to their club and community. Thomas's hard work, resilience and positive attitude have earned him this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations, Thomas!

Congratulations to all of our students on these outstanding achievements. We are incredibly proud of everything you have accomplished and can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

Our students had a fantastic time at the Mater Maria Catholic College Careers Expo, exploring the many exciting pathways available to them after school.

With representatives from universities, TAFE NSW, private colleges, local employers and Northern Beaches Council, students gained valuable insights into further study, training and career opportunities while making meaningful connections with industry professionals.

Thank you to all our exhibitors for inspiring our students and helping them take the next step towards becoming future ready.

NAIDOC Week - 5 -12 July | This week we celebrate NAIDOC Week, an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the histories, cultures, achievements, and enduring contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year's theme, Fifty Years of Deadly, celebrates five decades of strength, leadership, resilience, and community. It honours the Elders, advocates, artists, storytellers, and communities whose voices and vision continue to shape the future.
We invite our families to join in celebrating NAIDOC Week by attending local community events, listening to First Nations voices, and taking time to learn more about the stories, cultures, and histories that continue to shape our shared future.

World of Maths Day at Mater Maria!

Today, our Year 7 students took part in a range of hands-on mathematical challenges as part of World of Maths Day. One of the highlights was exploring Aboriginal algebra using Booji Balls, where students applied mathematical thinking, pattern recognition and problem-solving skills in an engaging and interactive way. Throughout the day, students worked collaboratively to tackle a variety of activities designed to strengthen their understanding of mathematical concepts while having fun.

Experiences like these show that mathematics can be creative, practical and enjoyable, helping students develop confidence and critical thinking skills beyond the classroom.
