Tommy was home sick from kinder last week, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to rope him into helping me test some new tools that WUTA Leather sent me. WUTA Leather

For transparency: WUTA sent these to me for free to keep in exchange for making some content. I wasn’t paid, and they had no say in what I said about the tools.

I’ve actually been using WUTA tools for many years. Back when I started my business they made affordable entry-level tools that were good for getting me started and for filling my student toolkits. Over the last few years they’ve moved into much higher-end gear, with the quality and prices to match.

The biggest surprise for me was the French edgers. At around $140 USD for the pair they’re definitely not cheap, but they have ebony handles and M390 powdered steel, which is about as good as it gets for edge retention. They’ve been extremely sharp straight out of the box, cut beautifully and, so far, I haven’t had to sharpen them. The only possible downside is that M390 at around 60 HRC isn’t the quickest steel to sharpen once it eventually needs it.

The edge creasers are nicely polished, well made and work exactly as they should. My only criticism is that I’d love to see them offered in wider sizes, at least to 4 mm.

The grooving tool looks good and worked well. The edge guide is probably the best design I’ve used, but I’d prefer a more traditional handle rather than the pen-style grip. It would give a bit more control through tighter curves.

The straight punches cut well, although the bevels were left a little rough and would benefit from a quick final polish before use. Considering how inexpensive they are, that’s hardly a deal-breaker.

Overall, I’d have no hesitation recommending these tools to anyone who’s serious about leatherwork. They’re not just making budget tools, they’re producing genuinely high-quality gear. Tommy approved

I’m a little nervous to share these because I’m really new to carving leather. This is the second sling I’ve ever done with it. It’s one of those things I’ve always wanted to get into but never had a reason to get stuck into it.
But when asked if I could tool him up some nice slings I said I’ll try my best.
I’ve had to buy a few new tools and practice my drawing skills a lot before I was ready to put it on leather. I did one practice sling first then got into this one. But I think it’s turning out really well.
This sling will get a topcoat of sealer next and then I’ll have another two to finish up soon with leather wrapped buckles. (I’ll show that process for those of you that asked from my last reel)
