National Science Week Day 2!

Huge thanks to Scott, Vanessa and Tom from Alcoa Australia for joining us today and leading our students through a very entertaining egg-rescuing activity.

The year six students had to build something that could save an egg from smashing when dropped from a height.

It was a very entertaining incursion which finished with a demonstration on the strength of eggs as Mr Kelly stood on two dozen eggs and not one smashed!

National Science Week 2026: Day 1:

Mr Kelly kicked us off today with 3 “do not try this at home” experiments/demonstrations.

1- Weight distribution: 20 balloons under an upturned table can hold 10 Year 2 students!

2- Flying tea bags: cutting a tea bag open and lighting the bag creates convection and causes the empty bag to rise like a hot air balloon.

3- Elephant toothpaste: demonstrating a chemical reaction. Take 2 tomorrow!

The kids enjoyed the demonstrations and the school didn’t go up in flames!!🔥🔥

Our students are loving the mud kitchen area now that they have a water supply. We will be expanding this for them so we are seeking all kitchen things that are unbreakable ie; metal, wood, plastic, silicon! We would love all your old items that are no longer used in your home kitchens like pots, pans, baking trays, muffin trays, bowls, sieves, utensils etc. Please drop them off to the school office.

Real life learning in our community:

Today Mrs Simpson took her Year 1 class across the road to the Shire of Waroona’s Railside Park. They were on a mission to classify things they encountered as natural, constructed or managed.

The students were highly engaged and really embraced the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom walls.

Hannah from St Vincent de Paul visited the school last week and spent some time with our Mini Vinnies!

She gave a short presentation about the important work they do for the community and then students completed the backpack activity.

She was blown away by the amount of blankets our families donated back in Term 2 and wanted to thank everyone for being so generous for those less fortunate than ourselves.
