Last Wednesday marked the third and final day of the Lauren Colthorpe cup for our U16 girls soccer team. The team defeated West Wallsend 3–2 in a hard-fought semi-final before putting together a dominant performance to beat St Paul’s 3–0 in the final and claim the Lauren Colthorpe Cup trophy!
The victory makes the girls back-to-back champions after also winning the competition last year. A fantastic achievement and a great way to finish off the tournament. Well done girls!

This week at WBHS we’re celebrating School Support Recognition Week and taking the opportunity to say a big thank you our amazing support staff who are such an important part of our school. From helping our students and supporting staff, to welcoming families and keeping everything running smoothly, our support staff do so much each and every day. A lot of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their contribution is felt throughout our whole school community. They bring care, dedication and a willingness to help whenever it’s needed, and we simply couldn’t do what we do without them. On behalf of our whole school community, thank you to our wonderful support staff. We appreciate everything you do and the difference you make every day!

On Friday 28 August, we proudly inducted our 2026–2027 School Captains - Jarrah and Olivia, Vice-Captains - Ella and Sophie, Prefects, Student Executive, SRC and JAECG. We also farewelled and thanked our outgoing leaders for their contribution over the last 12 months.
Congratulations to all students selected — your leadership, enthusiasm and dedication will help shape an incredible year.

Book Week Day 2 & 3.
Yesterday, the festivities continued in the Library with our Speed Reading Competition. Mr Greive was crowned this year's Speed Reading champion, managing to get through 53 lines of 'One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish' in one minute! Ruairi H of Year 9 came in a close 2nd, reading 50 lines in the time allowed.
Today we held our ever popular Book to Movie Trivia. Students (and teachers!) were asked questions about a range of books that have been turned into films, including 'Harry Potter', 'The Lorax', 'The Lord of the Rings', and 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. With plenty of competition hot on their tails, team "Cabin Four" ultimately took out the grand prize. More excitement awaits tomorrow with a team Lego building challenge

Happy Book Week! We are celebrating all week in the Library with activities running every day. Today students worked on Blackout poetry, turning pages of old books into their own poems. Congratulations to our winner, Erin of Year 7, who impressed our judges with her poem 'crossed a busy road' and to all who participated. The fun continues tomorrow with a Speed Reading competition 🙂
