We thought we had good news for you. We thought the next time we posted would be to tell you we had finally saved our precious Butterfly Cave.

Back in January 2019, the Australian Federal Government made a Declaration to protect our precious cultural site under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act.

Good news. So why didn’t we share it with you all?

Because we weren’t convinced it was a true victory. And we were right.

Despite the Declaration – which covers the Cave and some of the surrounding bushland – Roche Group/Hammersmith ARE STILL PLANNING TO BUILD HOUSES adjacent to the site. They got legal advice and Lake Macquarie City Council has once more given them the green light.

This means Roche/Hammersmith are planning to BREACH the Federal Declaration and the ONLY person with the authority to enforce the Declaration is the Minister for Environment, Hon Sussan Ley MP.

We urge you to sign our new petition asking Minister Ley to ACT NOW and ensure the Butterfly Cave is protected from McMansions.

There is no other way to stop this from happening.
