The PrimeSCI! Synchrotron Education Team is excited to welcome you to the ANSTO Australian Synchrotron! Learn how the Australian Synchrotron combines science and technology to produce cutting edge research.

Join PrimeSCI! for the "Light It Up" (Year 9-10) hands-on physics lab sessions. Participants can take part in experiments using specialised equipment to illustrate concepts in physics of interaction of light and energy, nuclear physics and radioactivity.

The "Synchrotron and its Applications" (Year 10 - 12) lab session answers the question of how particle accelerators work. Participants can take part in experiments using specialised equipment to learn about the behaviour of electrons in electric and magnetic fields.

Both programs also include a tour of the Australian Synchrotron - a rare chance to see this world class facility.

Heather delivered PrimeSCI! VCES Hands-On Science Enrichment lessons to 230 students from 7 schools as part of High Abilities Week in late July.

Students were encouraged to investigate ideas such as friction, gravity, tension, magnetism, conduction, convection, sound vibration, light movement, reflection, refraction and the electromagnetic spectrum.

🔬 Bringing PrimeSCI! STEM enrichment to regional Victoria! 🧪

In late July, PrimeSCI! Senior Educator Heather was delighted to visit Shepparton for High Abilities Week, delivering Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) hands-on science experiences to more than 230 students from seven local schools.

The week highlighted the strong demand for high-quality STEM enrichment opportunities in regional communities — and the importance of bringing these experiences directly to students.

With 26 regional primary schools across the Shepparton region, locally delivered programs help remove the geographical and logistical barriers that can make accessing enrichment opportunities more difficult for regional students.

Following the success of this year's visit, we're excited by the interest in bringing PrimeSCI! VCES back to Shepparton in 2027, giving even more students the opportunity to experiment, investigate and build their confidence and curiosity in STEM.

A huge thank you to the Shepparton Education Plan, participating schools, teachers and students for such a fantastic week!

🧪🔬 What an incredible fortnight of science!

Over five action-packed days, Swinburne PrimeSCI! delivered 27 hands-on science workshops, welcoming 175 families and 245 young scientists aged 4–18 years, with an impressive 382 workshop places filled across our School Holiday Science Programs at Swinburne Hawthorn and the ANSTO Australian Synchrotron.

From curious Kindergarten students creating, experimenting and discovering, to senior secondary students exploring cutting-edge research at the Australian Synchrotron, it was inspiring to see so many young people embracing STEM.

Throughout the week, participants explored Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Environmental Science, and Mathematics through engaging, curriculum-aligned activities designed to spark curiosity, build confidence and encourage scientific thinking.

A huge thank you to all the families who joined us and to our dedicated PrimeSCI! team for making another successful School Holiday Science Program possible.
