On this Day in History: In 1997, Rev W.V. Awdry who created the’ Thomas the Tank Engine’ books, died aged 86. In 1960, the Sharpeville Massacre occurred where white South African police opened fire on a crowd of 20,000 black protestors. 67 were killed, many being shot in the back as they fled. Apartheid continued in South Africa until 1994.

On this Day in History: 1933 – The first N**i Concentration Camp, Dachau was completed in preparation for Adolf Hitler’s plans for the Final Solution (Holocaust). 2003 – The USA and a “Coalition of the Willing” invaded Iraq and started the 2nd Gulf War.
