Flamingo Three Year Old Kindergarten

Our worm farm is doing so well! We even have baby worms 🐛 We feed them our food scraps every day.

We’ve been having fun making our own potions up with some pretty flowers 🌺 and leaves 🍃 We have added water 💦 and ground them up in mortar and pestles.

📚Yesterday, Chelsea from Knox Library came to do a story time with us. Story time is available at the library at Westfield Knox shopping centre each week. Look at their website to find the times 📚

‘Elmer’ the elephant is a favourite story to read and now we have our own heard of elephants to play with, including the patchwork elephant Elmer!🐘

Our Healthy Early Childhood Services Achievement program award for sun protection! ✅☀️ We’re proud to be awarded this in recognition of our focus on the creation of environments and behaviours that will prevent over-exposure to UV radiation.

This week we made our version of moon cakes and moon decorations to celebrate the Moon Festival! 🌝

Last week we made pizzas! 🍕 We made them from scratch…first we made the dough and each child rolled out their own mini pizza. Then we added the passata and the children chose what toppings they wanted. We had cheese, ham, tomatoes and kale. We ate them for lunch 😋

Exploring our Sensory Seed Tray 🔍 In this were some hidden bugs and beetles. The children could find them in the tray using their fine motor skills to hold onto tweezers. The tops of our jar are magnifyers so the children then got a close-up look at the bugs 🪲

Experimenting with colours 🔴🔵🟡 We’ve been painting with cotton buds on absorbent paper and watching the food dye colours blend together to make new colours 🎨 We also read ‘Mouse Paint’ together - a story about colour mixing. Mixing colours is a great science experiment…we made predictions about what the colours might make when blended, and then tested out our theories 👩‍🎨 👨‍🎨

🐛 Check out our worm farm! It’s doing so well that we have baby worms everywhere. We save all our scraps from our morning tea and lunch and feed this to the worms🍌🍎We’ve also emptied the bottom of the farm and collected all of the worm tea which is a great fertilizer to use on our other plants 🪴

⭐️ A BIG thank you to Knox City Council ⭐️ for providing the Community Development Fund grant for ‘A safe engaging outdoor play area/learning space'. The outdoor play equipment and indoor tables are already being well used and loved by the children!
