🏀🥈Year 8 Basketball, Girls Runner Up.

Seventeen of our Year 8 students ventured to Wodonga yesterday for the SSV Upper Hume Basketball carnival.

Our girls finished Runner-Up, defeating Galen Catholic College (34-19) and Wodonga Middle Years Huon (44-26) to win their pool.

However, in the final, the powerful Catholic College Wodonga were too strong.
It was their second Runner-Up result in the space of five days, after going down in the Volleyball final last Friday, also to Catholic College.

These talented girls continue to impress in a wide range of sports, after a strong 2025 which saw them finish State Top 8 in Cricket, and State Top 16 in both Football and Badminton as Year 7s.

MVP - Co-Captains and Warriors reps Macy Boschetti and Ashton Ryan, and Joni
Cornhill.

Our boys competed well, with two narrow losses in their 0-3 record, coaches by Warriors coach Troy Lewis and Captained by Dayne Jeffries.

TOP SCORERS BY MATCH -
WMYC Felltimber - Zac Tamme (10), Harry Langdon (5).
Victory Lutheran College - James Mogg (6), Perez Lawson (6), Dayne Jeffries (5).
Galen - Zac Tamme (12), Perez Lawson, Jake Vincent (4).

Thanks to all players, coaches, umpires, organisers and opposition.

⛳️ Golf Day - C.L.C Excursion Season

Excursion Season continued yesterday for the Semester 2 cohort of Year 9s in our Community Leadership Challenge (C.L.C) program, with Golf on the menu.

First on campus, they set up and completed their own course under the towering gum trees of our One-Mile Creek outdoor education precinct.

Then it was off to Wangaratta Golf Club for various challenges at the driving range and the putting green.

Luke Pensak stood out as a long clean hitter, while Kayla Geue shone in the Nearest the Pin challenges on the green.

Thanks to club member Trevor Trimble again for guiding us.

More guest speakers visited - thanks to long-time C.L.C supporter Carole Breust who gave a speech about the Make A Wish foundation, including some of the most powerful stories our teenagers had ever heard.

🎶 NEVR Music Ensemble Day at Wangaratta High School 🎶

What a phenomenal day of music-making! On Thursday August 20th our school was proud to host the annual NEVR Music Ensemble Day, bringing together talented young musicians from 13 government high schools across our local area.

As Dave Armstrong, our Executive Principal highlighted in his opening address, this event is all about celebrating our true regional schools and giving local students from across Northeast Victoria the spotlight they deserve.

From beginner groups to advanced performers, the dedication and professionalism on display were second to none. Our visiting directors summed up the atmosphere perfectly: "It was terrific to see such a wide range of ensembles and ability levels... what a fantastic opportunity it was for students to perform on a stage of that calibre."

A massive thank you to:
👨‍👩‍👧 Our Parents & Families: For supporting the day, cheering from the audience and encouraging our students’ musical journeys.
🎶 Our Performing Students: For bringing your energy, passion and incredible talent to the stage.
🎼 The Wangaratta High School Music Team: For the huge amount of work behind the scenes to create a professional experience for every performer.
🔊Soundalive Productions: It’s not a good show without good sound. Thanks Trav.
🙌 Visiting Teachers, Staff & Volunteers: For preparing students, managing logistics and helping the day run seamlessly.
📷Kev McGennan - for capturing the memories of the event

Events like this show what a strong, supportive community we have behind our regional schools. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the day such a huge success! 🎷🎻

🏅 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL – Which House will be Champion in 2026?

Next Tuesday our Athletics Carnival takes place at the Bill Eaton Athletics Complex in Appin St – our 111th carnival since the first took place in 1915!

Which house will win the prestigious Bruce Revell Shield, named after our first-ever Physical Education teacher and long-time Sport Coordinator, Mr Revell?

Can Merriwa claim an historic fourth in a row? Can King clinch a rare “Double”, after lifting the Swimming Shield in February? Or can Ovens or Wareena pick up their second title in five years?

Who will claim the 12 prestigious Age Group Champion medals and enter our history books?

Excitement is building to a fever pitch, with over 200 competitors lined up in more than 1,000 events!

We can’t wait to share all the results, photos and highlights! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏆

📍 Monday 31 August: Javelin and High Jump will be conducted at Wangaratta High School.

📚 Book Week Spotlight: Author Mark Smith Visits WHS

We were excited to host author Mark Smith earlier today as part of our Book Week celebrations, presenting to a group of around 50 students.

Mark shared his personal journey to becoming an author, offering valuable insights into his novel-writing process and what it takes to get a book published.

Students gained a practical look into the creative and publishing process, followed by a Q&A session where Mark answered questions and gave away copies of his books to a few lucky attendees.

Thank you to Mark for taking the time to visit and share his experiences with our students!

⚖️The Verdict is In: Legal Studies Hits the Courts!

Last Thursday, our Year 11 and 12 Legal Studies students headed to the Wodonga Law Talks to explore the Victorian justice system. They gained valuable insights from Victoria Legal Aid, the Victoria Ombudsman, the Victorian Law Reform Commission, and the Victorian Electoral Commission, while picking up top-tier exam tips!

To cap it off, the group visited the Wodonga Law Courts to step into key courtroom roles and test their decision-making in a mock jury empanelment.

No objections here, it was a great day of hands-on learning! 🏛

🏐 Year 8 Volleyball – Upper Hume Carnival

Fifteen of our Year 8 students competed on Friday at the School Sport Victoria Upper Hume Volleyball Carnival, held at the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Our girls finished runners-up after winning their pool undefeated, with wins against Wodonga Middle Years (2–0) and Victory Lutheran College (2–1), before going down to Catholic College Wodonga in the final.

Standout players: Macy Boschetti, Joni Cornhill and Ava Penney.

Our boys couldn’t quite replicate the feat of last year’s team, who were Upper Hume Champions, but they showed terrific sportsmanship and continued to improve throughout the day.

Leading players: Ryder Alvey and Jarrad Kane.

A big thank you to all our players, coaches, umpires, opponents and organisers, as well as Kev McGennan for capturing the day in photos.
