Wandong Primary School is located approximately sixty kilometres north of Melbourne, just off the Hume Highway. It is in a semi rural township and currently has a school population of approximately 460 students. Enrolments are steadily increasing due to the highly regarded reputation within our community. New housing estates and the ease with which families can access employment either within the

neighbouring townships or in the outlying areas of Melbourne makes Wandong a school of choice. The positive and supportive culture of our school is the result of a consistently delivered Student Management process that reinforces behaviours demonstrating our school values of “Pride", "Kindness" and "Curiosity" whilst also supporting students having difficulty to make better choices in the future. Wandong Primary School provides a balanced curriculum encompassing all expectations of the Victorian Curriculum. Early and Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy programs provide the core of a diverse whole school curriculum. Integrated units of inquiry encompass the disciplines of Humanities and Science. Specialist programs deliver learning in the areas of Visual Arts, Digital Technology, Performing Arts, Physical Education, Auslan and Science (STEM). Early identification and support for students at risk is of paramount importance. A range of support programs assists these students to increase their current levels of achievement. These include an evidenced based approach to Literacy Intervention, a focussed Oral Language Phonics Program and the employment of Education Support staff across the school. Additional extracurricular activities include a Prep- Grade 6 camping program, school concerts, a swimming program, a sporting schools program and excursions within the local area and beyond. Wandong also offers specialist music lessons with an external provider within our school.

🐓 Come rain or shine, our Eco Rangers are out each day taking pride in our school spaces and showing plenty of kindness to our feathered friends.

🧤 It’s not always a glamorous job either! On Fridays, our Rangers muck out the barn, scoop p**p, clean out old or mouldy feed, haul water and genuinely get their hands dirty. It’s an important part of ensuring our animals receive top-notch care, while also building character and teaching our children the value of working hard, pitching in and getting a little dirty to get a job done well.

❤️ We are immensely proud of our student Rangers; of the kindness in their hearts, the pride they take in caring for our animals and their wonderful commitment to hard work.

These are the little things that build some pretty great humans. 🌏🌱

A long, but heartfelt post on this Principals’ Day…🙏

Leading in schools is, by far, one of the hardest things we have ever done.

It is a role that can be so incredibly full of hope, growth, love and success and in equal measure, fear, challenge, anger and failure.

When times are tough, they can be really tough. The endless hours, the challenging emails, the heightened conversations, the weight of difficult decisions, and fighting with everything you have for young people who are facing challenges far beyond what any child ever should… only to sometimes feel as though you still haven’t been able to make enough of a difference.

There are days when you wonder whether anything you do is enough. Whether anyone is happy with the decisions you make. Whether you could have done more, said something differently, fought a little harder.

Leading a school can be emotionally and physically exhausting.

But then there is the other side.

When it is good, it is extraordinarily good. And it can change your life in ways you never could have imagined.

One of the greatest gifts that has ever come from leading a school has been the people we have met along the way.

Students. Families. Teachers. Education Support Staff. Leaders. Colleagues. Friends.

Some of the biggest-hearted, kindest, most patient, fiercely dedicated and strong human beings you could ever hope to know, work here. People who give so much of themselves every single day for children, families and one another. People who quietly carry each other through the difficult days and celebrate alongside each other when the good ones come.

And amongst them, we have found lifelong friends. People who stand beside us in leadership and somehow make one of the hardest and, at times, loneliest jobs, never feel lonely at all.

Working in schools is certainly not for the faint of heart. Leading in them is something else entirely. But it is also one of the greatest privileges of our lives.

Today, on Principal’s Day, we have felt so incredibly loved.

Thank you to every person who made today one of the most beautiful and memorable Principals’ Days yet. To our staff, students and families…thank you.

There is no version of leadership that is done alone. Every good thing we achieve belongs to a team of people who care deeply, work incredibly hard and continue to show up for children and for each other.

To our community, thank you for standing beside us, for believing in what we are always trying to build, for the laughter, the honesty, the trust, the encouragement, the hard conversations and the unwavering support.

We are profoundly grateful for you.

We hope, in all that we do, that we serve you well. That we make your work a little easier, your voices heard, your efforts valued, your days feel supported. Because it is an absolute privilege to lead a community of teachers, families and students like you.

And on the days when this work feels impossibly hard, you are the reminder of why it is still so very worth doing. ❤️

Tomorrow we’re beyond stoked to welcome Jayden and the awesome crew from Gnarly Neighbours to Wandong Primary School as we kick off an epic 4-week skateboarding program for our Grade 3/4 students!

Gnarly Neighbours isn’t just about skateboarding—it’s about building confidence, creating belonging, supporting young people and bringing communities together through the power of skate culture. Their mission of getting “kids on board for real change” has already inspired heaps of families across our community, and we know many of our own students are already proud members of the Gnarly Neighbourhood. Check them out here https://gnarlyneighbours.com.au/

Over the next four weeks, our students will be learning new skills, challenging themselves, encouraging their mates and, most importantly, having an absolute blast on their boards.

The program will wrap up with an awesome community skate session at the Wandong Skate Park, where we’ll celebrate everything our students have learnt and bring the wider skate community together.

We can’t wait to see our Grade 3/4 legends carving up the concrete, dropping in with confidence, landing new skills and discovering just how much fun skateboarding can be.

Here’s to four weeks of pushing limits, cheering each other on and keeping the stoke alive.
