Our children have been exploring and learning about Indigenous Australian animals, discovering where they live, what they eat, and what makes each animal special.

Each room has chosen an animal that has sparked their interest and are now bringing their learning to life through their room creations.

Through art, creativity, research and meaningful conversations, the children are sharing what they have discovered and developing a deeper connection to the animals and the Country around them.

On Wednesday we had the pleasure of welcoming Kat, a First 5 Forever Project Officer from Mackay Regional Council to our Centre.

Kat generously donated copies of Berky the Bush Turkey and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

These stories will be embedded into our curriculum through interactive story times, imaginative play, and conversations that extend children's learning.

Berky The Bush Turkey will help us explore our local environment, Australian wildlife, and our community, while The Very Hungry Caterpillar provides opportunities to learn about healthy eating, counting, sequencing, and the life cycle of a butterfly.

Thank you, Kat and the First 5 forever program, for supporting early literacy and helping us inspire a lifelong love of reading in our children.

Book of the Month: Grow by Riz Reyes

This month, we’re exploring Grow by Riz Reyes, a beautiful book that encourages children to discover the wonders of plants, nature, and caring for the environment.

To extend this learning, we’ve will be refreshing our own garden, creating a hands-on space where the children can plant, nurture, observe, and learn. Through gardening, children develop an understanding of where food comes from, the importance of caring for living things, and how patience and teamwork help things grow.

This past weekend, our educators were fortunate to take part in a Walk on Country with Aunty Mel.

Through our Kindy Uplift funding, we are investing in professional learning that strengthens our team’s knowledge of the local community, culture, and Country. Experiences like these provide valuable opportunities to listen, learn, and build genuine connections that will support and enrich our curriculum.

As educators, we are committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in meaningful and authentic ways. The knowledge and experiences gained during this Walk on Country will help us create learning opportunities that encourage children to develop a strong sense of belonging, respect for Country, and appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of our community.

A big thank you to Aunty Mel for sharing your time, wisdom, and stories with us. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue learning together.

Healthy Eating at Daycare
At our service, healthy eating is about so much more than what's on the plate - it's about creating positive lifelong habits.
Every day, children are encouraged to:
Enjoy a variety of nutritious foods from all food groups.
Try new fruits and vegetables in a fun, supportive environment
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
Build independence by serving themselves and learning about healthy food choices
Share mealtimes with friends, developing social skills, conversation, and good table manners.

We believe that mealtimes should be relaxed, enjoyable, and filled with opportunities to learn. By working together with families, we can help children develop a healthy relationship with food that will benefit them for years to come.
