The Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO) is a not-for-profit, professional organisation that offers a range of maths problem solving competitions and programs for students aged from around eight to 14. The programs are unique in that they focus on the students' ability to solve mathematical problems in a creative manner - as opposed to simply reaching a solution using a prescribed method. The APSMO Maths Olympiad has been operating in primary schools since 1987 and in high schools since 2003. Each year thousands of schools participate in the competition from around Australia and New Zealand. The Maths Olympiad, Maths Games and Maths Explorer are an ideal complement to the school curriculum. The main aims of the competitions are to:

Introduce students to important mathematical concepts

Teach major strategies and develop flexibility for problem solving

Foster creativity and ingenuity and strengthen intuition

Stimulate enthusiasm and enjoyment of mathematics

Provide for the satisfaction, joy and thrill of meeting challenges

APSMO provides a range of resources to complement the teaching of mathematical problem solving including professional learning modules in mathematical problem solving for teachers.

Good luck to all the students across Australia and New Zealand taking on their final Maths Olympiad, Maths Games and Maths Explorer problem-solving contest! ✏️🧠

After months of problem-solving, persevering and those all-important “Aha!” moments, it’s time for one last challenge. We hope you enjoy putting your problem-solving skills to the test! 🌟

And while students are tackling their final problems, things are about to get very busy behind the scenes at APSMO HQ…

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be tabulating results, celebrating some incredible achievements and preparing tens of thousands of awards ready to make their way to schools across the country in Term 4 for end of year presentations. 📦🏅
