Spent sleep day productively. 6 night shifts earned a little sleep in then job interview, Nat Buchannans grave, Uralla wetlands and a swim at Uralla pool. Nice part of the world.

This hospital has a doctor on call and is well resourced as far as healthcare. Feeling privileged to have been put in the pod accommodation - very comfy. Night shift is never nice but it does give me time to have a look around. Every cloud has a silver lining
Exploring the surrounds so far; Budds Mare Lookout and Aspley Falls walk with another suspension bridge in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Aspley Falls is the site of another Koori massacre where men, women and children were forced off the cliffs by men with cattle prods. I hang my head in shame of what has been done in the past. Amazing landscape - Mother Nature has excelled!
A walk through the towns sculpture trail along the levy is a nice way to spend a few hours and of course a visit to the cemetery where Nat Buchanan is buried and the colorful aboriginal section.
2 lots of sad news from home and friends makes me grateful to have the technology to connect when you can’t be face to face.💜❤️
Plan to pop over to Mummel Gulf National Park, Uralla for a swim in the pool and a pie from the Pie Mechanic, Tia Falls, maybe even Port Mac for fish and chips, car service and back home via the road less travelled through Wingham.

You have to step out of your comfort zone to step up. This weekend attended as nurse for doof party solar cycle. High risk but I did it. Barely 4 hours sleep for the weekend with catnaps to get me by. Fantastic location in the hills above Long Flat. All well behaved and looking after each other . Thanks for the encouragement David Lawrence

Mungo National Park
Amazing geological features and home of Mungo Man and Woman. 40,000 years old. What a place!!!! So grateful I was able to visit and appreciate the culture here.
So many near misses with emu, goat, sheep, birds and wild cats 😞
Nearly 100k of red dirt road there and back - might need to clean the car before returning it.

Town adventure today. Swing bridge, aboriginal cemetery, normal cemetery, weir. Many unknown graves in the cemetery. The weir was very pretty - enough to set up for a week or two. Swing bridge quite wobbly but a local said that it has been fixed and is much better than it was lol

Salt pan adventure. Was expecting a pink lake but it was just pinkish bushes and a very dodgy road. It was called salt pan road but it was a little more than a sandy track alongside a field of green stuff. It looked like an access track for the field rather than a gazetted road. Thanks all wheel drive club for the training. Quick stop off at Swan Hill and back to Balranald. Beautiful sunset today.

Today after work ventured out to Yanga woolshed, beach and homestead. They are around 2km apart from each other.
The woolshed still had the sheep smell after nearly 20 years of not being used. Bruce the shearers quarters were very primitive which wouldn’t be much fun in the summer heat or winter cold. Found a Blade Tree. Do you know what this is?
Shearers would bury their shears or blades into the tree when they left for war in the hope they would return to retrieve it.
The lake is quite large as is the Murrumbidgee around Balranald . People fish and swim at the lake beach.
The national park gates into the homestead were locked about 2 hours prior to my visit. I’ll just follow one of the dirt tracks to see where it goes I think. 2wd hire car- she’ll be right! Beautiful view of lake Yanga along the power lines with a free brush off of the underside of the car. Came out on a road and followed that down to the homestead where I had a look around free of tourists!! Beautiful homestead and garden which had been made very comfortable for its time . On the way back met some people (the ranger !) who said that I was on private property bush bashing. I laughed at my “error” and had a chat to the family about the eagle nest they were looking at with a drone - then promptly lost in the saltbush. Pretty cool kid and wife explained this was hubby’s country.
Wife was kind enough to let me out the gate rather than me having to find the track I came in on again. Drove back to the accommodation to rest up for another day.
Pink lake tomorrow I think :)
