๐ Celebrating St Dominic โ Priest & Founder of the Dominican Order ๐
๐
Why do we honour him on Monday , 3 August here in Australia?
The universal Church traditionally marks St Dominicโs feast on 8 August, but in our Down Under calendar that day is reserved for Australiaโs first saint, St Mary MacKillop (our beloved โSaintly Nunโ ๐ฉโ๐๏ธ). To give both saints the solemn celebration they deserve, the Australian liturgical calendar moves St Dominicโs feast to the 3rd August , the Monday before the feast of St Mary MacKillop.
๐ก A quick glimpse of St Dominic:
Born in Spain (1170), he felt a holy call to preach the Gospel to all people, especially the poor.
In 1215 he founded the Order of Preachers (Dominicans), a community devoted to study, prayer, and preaching.
Known as the โPreacher of the Faith,โ he championed the truth of the Church and the power of the Word ๐.
โจ Join us this Monday, 3 August at 6:30 pm for a beautiful Solemn Mass in honour of St Dominic. This Mass carries a Plenary Indulgence when the three usual conditions are met (confession, communion, and praying the Our Father & Nicene Creed). Letโs walk together in his spirit of compassion and truth!
๐๏ธ Feel invited to bring a friend or family member, our parish family is always ready to welcome you with open arms and a warm โWelcome Home!โ

St Dominicโs legacy of preaching truth, defending the faith, and caring for the poor. May his example inspire us to be โpreachers of loveโ in our daily lives.

On Monday, Prouille celebrated St Dominic's Day.
Thank you to our students who led the liturgy and did readings.
St Dominic is the patron saint of Prouille and a significant part of our school's history.
Our school name comes from a town in France, "Prouilhe", where our patron saint, St Dominic, began his Order of Preachers.
Each year we celebrate St Dominic and his Feast Day.

We are taking this opportunity, just over halfway through the year, to reflect on our events so far and how our wonderful Prouille community has been there at every step of the way.
We would particularly like to acknowledge one particular Prouille family who generously donates all the sausages for our events. Your ongoing support has meant that our events are not only possible, but feasible.
Thank you to BE Campbell and the Campbell family!

We would also love to thank the Lane family for their generous donation of professional catering trays. These will help us keep food hot or cold throughout our events and will also be shared with Wahroonga OSHC and VC so even more families can benefit.
And a special mention to Tiger, who proudly carried the stack of catering trays all the way to school for one event. It was a lovely reminder that community spirit starts young and every helping hand makes a difference!
We have also been privileged to develop an association with Escape the Ordinary who really are an extraordinary local business dedicated to supporting organisations across our community. A special thank you to Wendy and Ryan for continuing to be there for us, and for providing the best coffee and snacks around!
Thank you to all our parents, carers and volunteers who continue to support our school community.

โ๏ธ On the last day of Term 2, our school community enjoyed a fun-filled Pyjama Day in support of Vinnies Australia Winter Appeal.
๐งถ Students and staff came dressed in their pyjamas, onesies, dressing gowns and other cosy winter clothing, creating a wonderful atmosphere across the school.
๐ Pyjama Day was our way of celebrating and saying thank you for the generous donations of warm clothing contributed by our school community. Your kindness and generosity will help provide comfort and warmth to those in need during the colder months.
๐ It was a wonderful way to end the term, and we thank everyone for their support and generosity.

Prouille is joining a diocesan-wide fundraising initiative for CatholicCare - Diocese of Broken Bay and their homelessness services.
Between 2015 to 2026, homelessness on the Central Coast has increased by 15%, 12% on the Northern Beaches and 10% on the North Shore (ABS, 2026).
This year we are inviting our primary schools to once again take part in a m***i day on ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ณ ๐๐๐ด๐๐๐, the day before Mary MacKillopโs Feast Day.
Our focus remains on Mary Mac's Place, located in Woy Woy on the Central Coast. Mary Macโs Place is a community kitchen providing meals, support, and dignity to individuals who are homeless,
transient, or facing hardship. Importantly, Mary Macโs Place receives no government funding, and its services continue only through the compassion and generosity of our community.
In 2026 we will also support Dom's Place in Hornsby, another CatholicCare initiative. Established in April 2022, the program provides crisis intervention and case management to men, women and families who are at risk of, or experiencing homelessness.
Please bring a gold coin to support this cause.

Photos from the morning of Day Two from Bathurst. Another beautiful sunny day!
Our students have had some amazing new experiences, including visiting the gold fields and panning for gold, experiencing the hardship of the early gold miners by making mud bricks, playing basic games (such as tug-of-war) and making and eating delicious damper!
We look forward to seeing you all return at the end of today.
