π TAFE NSW Primary Industries Students Shine at the Dubbo Sheep Show π
Our Primary Industries students recently returned from an incredible two-day experience at the Dubbo Sheep Show, gaining valuable exposure to the sheep and wool industries while connecting with leading industry professionals.
A highlight of the event was our success in the Carcase Competition, where our students achieved 3rd place in our zone for Highest Value Carcase, recording an impressive score of 336.40. With first place scoring 359.76 and second place 342.28, the team was not far behind and should be proud of their achievement.
Throughout the event, students participated in a range of industry-focused workshops, including:
β
Careers Panel Students heard firsthand from representatives across the industry, including Charles Sturt University, the wool broking sector, Delta Ag, and TAFE Dubbo industry representative Lexi Cesnick. The panel provided valuable insights into the diverse career pathways available across agriculture and agribusiness.
β
Nutrition Workshop Students explored practical livestock feeding and management strategies, including feed management and confinement feeding practices that can be applied within modern production systems.
β
Fletcher International Exports Workshop A visit to Fletcher International Exports gave students an inside look at large-scale abattoir operations and the critical role processing plays within the sheep and lamb supply chain. The session reinforced how on-farm decisions influence carcase outcomes, market access, and profitability.
β
AWN Wool Workshop Students gained a deeper understanding of the Australian wool industry, learning about wool quality, sustainability, and the many opportunities available throughout the wool supply chain. The workshop highlighted why Australian wool remains one of the world's most valued natural fibres.
Experiences like these provide our students with real-world industry exposure, strengthen their understanding of the supply chain, and help build valuable connections for future careers in agriculture.
Congratulations to all students involved on representing TAFE NSW so well and achieving such a fantastic result. ππΎπ
