Today we celebrate the remarkable life and enduring legacy of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop. A true pioneer, a champion for the marginalised, and Australia's very first saint.

Long before modern classrooms and digital communities, Mary envisioned education as a fundamental right for every child, walking dusty Australian roads to bring hope, dignity, and learning to those who needed it most. Her courage wasn't just spoken; it was lived out through every act of fierce compassion and unwavering resilience.

Tune in at 7.30pm TONIGHT (Friday, July 24th) Australian time to see Australia's youngest athlete (and Xavier student!), 14-year-old Mia Hogan swim in the S13 100m freestyle heat on Day 1 of the Commonwealth Games.

Follow the link to watch Mia's story on You Tube (from Swimming Australia) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHl4CaDZhas

After watching her story, it's clear to see why we are so proud to have Mia as a Year 8 student here at Xavier Catholic College. We wish Mia, along with her family and support network who are there with her in Glasgow, the absolute best of luck as she competes in the international arena. Mia's hard work, perseverance, determination and positivity shines through in the pool, the schoolyard, and our wider community. Good luck!

We were delighted to host Nicola from Kildare Catholic College last week for a week-long work placement with CEDWW.

Nicola immersed herself in the day-to-day operations of Catholic Education, gaining valuable insights and contributing her skills to various teams. Placements like this are a fantastic opportunity for students to experience the professional environment first-hand and develop key workplace skills.

Thank you for your hard work and enthusiasm, Nicola! We wish you the very best in your studies and future career.

Today is National Sorry Day. Our 29 school communities are pausing to remember the Stolen Generations and acknowledge the painful legacy of past forced removals.

Healing requires us to listen, learn, and face the truth of our history. We remain deeply committed to walking the path of reconciliation together with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, staff, and families.
