Across all states and territories in Australia, the key message for safe driving is simple: Be Above 5 to Drive!
Diabetes Australia and AusRoads also recommend:
- Checking your glucose level before driving and stopping every 2 hours to check and ensure it is 5 mmol/L or above
- Making sure the hypoglycaemia pack in your vehicle is always well stocked and ready to treat any blood glucose levels below 5 mmol/L
- Keep a blood glucose meter in your vehicle when you drive – just in case!
