Want to join us for Zoom Book Club in term 1?
This term, we will be reading The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare, a brilliant coming-of-age story set in first-century Palestine under Roman occupation. The story's teenage protagonist, Daniel bar-Jamin, rages against the Romans who have stolen the Jews' way of life -- and killed Daniel's father. Daniel wants revenge, but there is his sister to think of, his strange, unwell sister who weighs like a burden on Daniel's heart.
As is our tradition, we'll use this novel as a jumping-off point to discuss the historical time period, the elements of the novel, and the writing itself. Each week there'll be three or more printable handouts for you to use at home, and in our weekly zoom sessions we'll have discussions, games, and activities to enrich our discussion of the novel.
Classes run on Mondays from 2.30-3.30pm at a cost of $14 per week and are aimed at students from year 6/7 onwards.
