✨️Strengthen what works✨️

We have just finished our breastfeeding journey and we had lots of ups and downs, but this photo shows the juggle! It captures one of those funny moments that reminds us of the power of breastfeeding not only as a food source but for comfort too. Although I am very passionate about extended breastfeeding, I'm also a big believer in doing what works for you and your family.

Breastfeeding is not always easy and often it comes with a lot of sacrifices but for us it has been so worth it 🥰 But I wouldn't have made it through 2 years of exclusive breastfeeding without the support I've experienced.

Cape to Cape Midwife was a huge support through my pregnancy, post partum and when challenges like mastitis crept up. I'm so grateful she was there to help and ease the pain or any concerns with her knowledge and expertise.

I definitely feel that babywearing really supported my breastfeeding by increasing the closeness, bonding, getting oxytocin flowing and helping me to be attuned and responsive to my babe.

This year's theme for World Breastfeeding Week is all about 'breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life and strengthen what works'. There's so many benefits to breastfeeding but sometimes we need that 'trusted, practical support.

So if you're needing breastfeeding support Australian Breastfeeding Association have many free resources e.g. local Cuppa & Chats, Breastfeeding Helpline and heaps more

I'll be here if you're ever needing help with discovering hope babywearing can support your breastfeeding journey or if you are looking for evidence-based resources so you can become informed and empowered! Bee's Babywearing

💕✨️But ultimately, you're doing amazing job and no matter how long you do or don't breastfeed or how your journey looks, your kiddos are so lucky to have you 💕✨️

Babywearing can be convenient. And it can help you get things done...

BUT it's so much more than that!
💛 It's a way to bond with your child.
💛 It helps regulate and calm baby's body
(and yours too!)
💛 It supports baby's development
💛 It increases oxytocin to support breastfeeding
💛 It can reduce crying in infants
💛 It helps the caregiver tune into baby's cues and figure out what their baby's needs are.
💛 It can give you some freedom to get out of the house
💛 It helps lower the risk of postpartum depression

The list could go on and on....

I am incredibly passionate about sharing how babywearing can make your life easier and more enjoyable. And I'll be discussing all the amazing benefits of babywearing and more at the upcoming education session in Busselton.

I think these parents really understood and valued finding something that supported not only the optimal position and comfort of their baby but also their own bodies!

We carry around our babies A LOT, whether its in a carrier or in our arms. And some families just expect it to be uncomfortable, like pain while babywearing is normal, but it's not!

You deserve to find a fit that is supporting your recovery, not working against it and you deserve to feel good while babywearing!

I find that the families who engage with me after the session when I offer fit checks or follow up information, they really benefit most because we can only do so much in the time allocated. That's why I am always happy to answer questions or send videos or recommendations even after your consult is finished.

This is more than just "work" for me, this is my passion!! So I love when I can help families achieve their goals and make their lives a little easier.

So you can imagine I was over the moon when this family later reached out to organise a gift voucher for their friends for a babywearing consult with me 🥰 It means the world when families value my services so much that they want to share it with others!

Thank you to this family for your beautiful words and thank you for inviting me to play a small part in your parenting journey ✨️

Have you noticed how babywearing can change even in one carry? I guarantee you the position your baby starts in when you first pop them in the carrier, will be very different to the end when you grab them out. That's because your baby is not a sack of potatoes 😅 Your baby is an active part of carrying, so they will move, their position will change as the carrying time goes on, even over the span of half an hour. Which means adjustments need to be made throughout the carrying time.

Here's an example - my toddler was awake and had his arms out, for a bit of freedom, and because he would absolutely fight me if I tried to wrap him with his arms in 😆 but once we was asleep l took a moment to adjust the wrap, pop his arms in and retighten. Which helped the carry feel so much more comfortable and supportive for us both.

So, no matter the age or size of your baby/toddler. They will move, wriggle, lean, relax... and that is great and all part of it, it would actually be quite alarming if they stayed still and stiff the whole time 😬 But just a reminder to check in with their positioning and how your body feels too. Then tweak and adjust as needed for the comfort of you both 💛

Hope that helps. Reach out if you need any further babywearing support!

At first when we were introduced to this, she didn't want to share in front of everyone at the dinner table, then it evolved and we made it our own. Now she asks every night in bed if we can could do 3,2,1.

Some days I cannot wait to get the kids to bed, but this has become a non negotiable for us because it's our bonding time.
It's our time to connect.
And what better way to end the day than to feel listened to and loved?!

I'm prioritising these conversations now because I'm hoping they become her inner voice, so she will be kind and gentle with herself.

These conversations will help her to understand the world a little better.

To not chase perfection but to learn to forgive herself.

To know that things get hard, but she's never alone, that I'll always be there to listen and help her through whatever problems come along.

And that at the end of the day there's so much to be grateful for.

You might be thinking, umm, this is a babywearing account, and how does this link to babywearing...?

Well in my mind, Babywearing is about connection.
It relates to continuing that beautiful bond and secure attachment you created from birth and carrying that throughout different stages of life. Responsiveness, connection and comfort just look a little different now than when she was a baby.

I know some say "little people, little problems". But to our kids, it doesn't feel little. So, if I listen to her problems now, hopefully when she is big and grown she will feel safe to openly talk to me about her "big problems" because she knows I will be there to listen without judgement and love her no matter what.

I am no expert, and I didn't come up with this. It is just what is working for us, for now, so I thought I'd share. But I'd love to know what your favourite way to connect and bond with your big kid after school or before bed so we can all add in more moments of bonding with our little people 🥰
