For the past year and a half a dedicated team of dreamers has worked hard to get very close to extending Nature’s Atelier Early Learning to include an Early Years School to our Vasse campus. I know I said never again but🤷‍♀️ someone has to show how we can do things differently.
So after a long and rigorous process we have got to the stage of waiting.
I know that many of you will support and follow our vision.
Thank you to Daniel Burton, Michael Haslett, Ron Gorman and Elissa McAuliffe for helping me realise another dream.

Kanangoor is the small class of 5 year olds who are showing every day increased leadership and confidence.

Our mentors listen to the children and support their ideas, which increases the children’s agency over their learning.

Today was a special day Kanangoor wanted to surprise Bush Kindy and so they prepared a lovely yoga class to teach the younger children at the Dome.

It was beautiful to see them practising together before the other children arrived.

🌿 Nature’s Atelier Community School are HIRING: FOUNDING TEACHING PRINCIPAL

This is a rare opportunity to help build a new school from the ground up.

Nature’s Atelier Community School is a proposed independent community school in Vasse, Western Australia, with registration currently pending. Subject to approval, the school will open in 2027 with Pre-Primary and Year 1 students.

We are seeking a Founding Teaching Principal who is excited by relational, nature-connected, play-rich and place-responsive education.

The successful applicant will commence part time from October to December 2026, supporting the administrative and practical work of establishing the school. This will include developing systems and documentation, curriculum planning, enrolment and staffing preparation, and setting up the learning environment.

Subject to registration and approval to open, the position will transition to full time from January 2027, combining part-time Principal leadership with part-time classroom teaching.

We are looking for a hands-on educational leader who is equally comfortable shaping school culture and systems, working alongside the Board, building relationships with families and teaching children.

One of the unique opportunities from being on a large property is that we have the room to connect our community with art and creativity through sculptures. Sculpture is a way that stories are told and we find a different lens to view out world. At Nature’s Atelier we have in excess of 20 sculptures dotting our landscape.

Today we finally moved some sculptures at Bush camp around to the final positions.
It was exciting for the children to see the truck with the crane skilfully moving each sculpture to a new position. Thankyou Mo for the
choreographing this sculpture dance.

Elaine and Vivian have been regular contributors to our community over the past few years. Their work with the beauty of the land is transformational and we know that they share their love for our beautiful south west wherever they go. I can’t wait to hear all about their adventures in Scotland.

Today Channel 7 Bunbury came down to find out about the Nature’s Atelier Community School.

A very long time filming which was reduced to a very short news piece. The magic of TV!

Sometimes the most magical learning happens when a story leads to a question, a question leads to an adventure, and an adventure leaves us waiting to see what the forest reveals next. This was Wednesdays adventure . Thank you for sharing Mentor Angie

Together, we talked about the water we use every day and the small things we can do to care for it. Our conversation even travelled all the way to the ocean, where we discovered that some of the sunscreens we use can have an impact on the water and the creatures that call our oceans home.

Slowly but surely, we are beginning to collaborate and wonder about the many ways we can become little custodians of our rivers, waterways and oceans. 🌊💧

After what had become a very long, fascinating and informative afternoon tea conversation, Jasper arrived with an invitation of a different kind.

Was anyone keen to help him set up a trail camera to see if we could catch a sneaky fox visiting our Enchanted Forest? 🦊

Of course, the answer was yes!

We headed outside to look for clues and signs. Near our dam, we discovered some dig marks, which Tilly thought might have been from a Fox wanting to eat our maron.

As we made our way into the Enchanted Forest, Jasper showed the children just how quickly he could disappear and hide. He then left a trail behind him for the children to follow, turning our search into its own little adventure.

We discovered some possible burrows and eventually found a place that we hoped might be a possible den.

The trail camera was carefully set up.

Now the waiting begins...

As Mentors we know that language can be very powerful and that making simple swaps in language can completely reframe an experience. An example of this is swapping “we are going on a walk” for excitedly pronouncing “We are going on an ADVENTURE”.

And what adventures they can have at Nature’s Atelier.

Yesterday Harley asked if we could go to Waabini tree.

So this morning we got our trolley ready, put our rain jackets on and went on a big adventure . We went along the stream, saw beautiful ducks and kangaroos. We had to cross the water and got a bit wet in the process 🤭 but it was so fun!

We then had our lunch at bush camp and enjoyed playtime down there, on the net, the swings, building castles with the crates.

What a big day filled with fun adventures!

Sometimes its important to remember to give back to the land which gives us so much.
The children helped in replenishing our Makuru winter creek with native reeds and paper barks.
Some wrote their names so they could return to visit their trees in hopes they will grow strong.
