We recently held a course at VEMI for EMV training PUARCV004 - Apply person-centred approaches to recovery planning and activities with Sally McKay and Susan Henry. The people who do this work well understand that communities lead their own recovery. Their job is to walk alongside, connect the right services, and stay long after the initial rush of help has faded.

Great to see another cohort building capability in emergency management intelligence. Our team recently delivered PUAOPE004 - Manage the intelligence function at an incident for Emergency Management Victoria (EMV), hosted at VEMI.

Participants worked through the core skills of the intelligence function within an emergency management context, covering how information is gathered, analysed and turned into products that support decision-making during incidents and events.

The group engaged with practical scenarios drawn from real operational environments, sharpening their ability to interpret data and communicate intelligence clearly under pressure.

Strong intelligence capability underpins good decisions in an emergency. It was a pleasure working alongside the EMV team on this one.

The scale is hard to picture: more than 50,000 people are reported missing across Australia every year. Most are found within a week.

Today is World Ranger Day, a good moment to think about the quiet work that happens between fire seasons.

Ask anyone who manages land for a living and they'll tell you the cooler months are when a lot of the real preparation gets done. Planned burns, clearing fire trails, checking access for heavy vehicles. None of it makes the news, and that's rather the point.

The calmer the summer, the better that off-season work has been. Preparation tends to be most visible when it's missing.
