What a way to spend Father’s Day!

We’ve had a wonderful morning at the Bonalbo Boots, Band and Bush Verse Festival, with our little champion Ayla once again showing exactly what our Urbenville kids are made of.

Ayla had the audience in tears with her beautiful self-written poem, Spirits of the High Country, and then, by popular demand, she was invited back up for a second performance, sharing another of her original poems, Sensational Seasons.

There is something pretty special about watching a 10-year-old stand in front of a crowd, completely own the stage, and move an audience with words she wrote herself.

And then little Owen decided he was getting in on the action too! At just five years old, up he went to share a poem with the crowd because apparently when you’re an Urbenville kid, a Sunday morning at a poetry festival is just another opportunity to have a crack.

Awards and accolades are wonderful, but THIS is what makes us proudest.

It’s Sunday and these kids could be anywhere , but they are out there representing their little school, sharing their writing, supporting one another and having the confidence to stand up in front of a room full of people and speak with such confidence.

Another successful Sunday for our little school.

DOROTHEA MACKELLAR POETRY AWARDS WINNER

Today we can finally share some VERY exciting news!

Our incredible Arjay has been named the 2026 David Maher Award Winner in the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards for his outstanding poem, “Bushfire Raze.”

With more than 8,000 entries submitted to this year’s Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards, this is an absolutely phenomenal achievement, and we could not be prouder.

Arjay worked, drafted, edited, refined and kept going until every word earned its place. Bushfire Raze is powerful, evocative and unmistakably his, and today, his beautiful writing has been recognised on a national stage.

For a little school in Urbenville to once again have one of our young writers recognised among thousands of entries from across Australia is something incredibly special.

We are enormously proud of you, of the work you put into your incredible poem.

And as for Urbenville Public School
we will be sharing more exciting news next week!

Our little school band is getting better and better, and our set list just keeps growing! The kids are sounding absolutely awesome, playing together, listening to each other, building confidence and, most importantly, having a ridiculous amount of fun while they do it.

Every week there seems to be another song added to the list
watch this space for Term 4 gig lists.

So proud of how far these little musicians have come!

What a fantastic afternoon we had at the MPC facility today, joining the wonderful staff and residents for their Onam celebrations!

There was delicious food, fabulous Indian dancing, plenty of laughter and some VERY enthusiastic competition! The tomato-and-spoon race was an absolute hit!
The highlight may have been the tug-of-war, our students were delighted with this activity, it has now been requested for Sport!

The kids absolutely loved every minute of the afternoon, and we were so appreciative of the warmth and generosity of everyone who made us feel so welcome.

Best of all, we’ve been invited to continue the fun, with an offer to come down to our school and teach us some Indian dancing. We can’t wait!

What a wonderful afternoon of culture, community, friendship and fun.

We were VERY excited to see that our new puzzles linked perfectly with our current Science unit on planets and space!

We had so much fun puzzling today as we get ready for our upcoming Inter-School Puzzle Competition — plenty of teamwork, concentration, friendly competition
and the occasional “WHO HAS THE PIECE I NEED?!”

Learning about the planets AND practising our puzzle skills at the same time? We’ll take that win!
