Young Drivers Expo.
On Wednesday, 26 August, 11 Academy students participated in the Young Drivers Expo held at TRECC in Tamworth.
Students took part in several workshops, including:
A crash scenario and mock trial, featuring a real Victim Impact Statement
Interaction with police crash scene investigators examining accidents that have occurred in our local region
A heavy vehicle workshop where we experienced firsthand truck blind spots, walked around, and went through a truck cabin
The Police Drug Unit, who spoke about the impact drugs have on driving, and provided a walkthrough of the bus that tests drivers
NRMA Insurance, where we learned about different types of insurance, including Young Driver Care, which offers drivers up to four free NRMA Road Service calls
Transport NSW
The HNEH Drug and Alcohol Unit, where we wore goggles simulating the difficulty of coordination and learned what constitutes a standard serving of alcohol
The HNEH Brain Injury Unit, where a gentleman who had a motorbike accident 40 years ago shared the long-term effects his accident has had on his everyday life
A braking and cornering demonstration, allowing us to observe how braking and driving at various speeds affect stopping and cornering distances
The day truly broadened our knowledge and gave us a healthy respect for our licence and the importance of keeping all road users safe.
